I personally think people just need to get over it. It happened six years ago, done, time to move forward. People don't make a hissy-fit talking about other attacks on the US, like Pearl Harbor, every year. Hell, I bet the average American (and so probably not many people from outside the US) does not even know what date Pearl Harbor was on. _________________

Now that you mentioned it.... I do forgot that date. I'm not from the US, but that sort of day was also a part of my country's history. That's because after the Pearl Harbor attack, the Japs came rushing down to my mainland to brush off the Americans from the country, and raped most parts of the country.
About the 9-11, i think it's now only a lesson that anything can happen... and the grievance itself, those unhappy memories had mostly receded now from the people itself. I don't see the point why would anyone keep hurting themselves with bad memories, thoughts, and feelings. Minus the people that were actually traumatized by this of course. _________________ Im just a "Fresh-Starter"... You don't need to be harsh on me, really... and I got no religion |

11/09 is most memorable because it happened in The United States. Had it have occurred elsewhere, I very much doubt there would be such news about it.
Sad thing is, that it was possibly Americas first experience of terrorism, something which much of the other Countries had suffered for years, including The United Kingdom. who suffered from terrorism funded for the most part by Americans.
Now I will not go into massive details, but Northern Ireland and Vietnam spring to mind.... Those old enough, or clued up enough will know! _________________ It feels so empty without a signature, so here is some mindless gabble to occupy the space |

Pearl Harbor was December 7th (that came from memory, I have an easy time with my history lessons ).

I thought it was memorable more because of the scale of the attack. There have been acts of terrorism against the U.S. before (USS Cole, Oklahoma City Bombing, bombings of U.S. embassies in Nairobi, Kenya and Dar es Salaam, and Tanzania, bombings at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, 1993 World Trade Center bombing, etc.)
How many people knew that the World Trade Center and been attacked before Sept. 11, 2001?
I think the 9/11 was so memorable because so many people died, and the scale of the operations was incredible, quite a feat for even a large terrorist organization to face. _________________ Rashy! |

I remember distinctly that I was chatting in a yahoo room when suddenly the whole room became silent and someone just posted the message that there had been a bad air crash at the WTC, I remember it was around 8 PM at office and since I had no access to a TV, I rushed home, as I switched on the TV the first thing I saw was the second plane ramming the WTC. At that point in time I saw the incindent in isolation and was really sad to see so many human beings losing life and limb. There were so many bizzare speculations going at that time, one really wondered as to what was the truth. Never did I know that this sad act of terrorism, would change the geo political face of the globe and lead to so many more lives and yet live on as a sore incident in the history of mankind. Never did I know that freaks like Osama had such twisted ideas and ideaology and whats worse there were other that believed in him. However, by that time afghanistan and taliban had happened, the world had had a taste of these jokers.
I also remember feeling that this was a major security breach and one of the so called superpower had been brought to its knees by a few crazy nuts. While one did expect an outward rebellion, I expected many heads to roll internally for breach of national security. I really wonder how many were held to task within the US government for failing to protect the very nation they were meant to. _________________ Reach out - "He who dares, Wins !"

I remember that I was in my 4th grade class and didn't hear about it until I got home and my parents were watching it on the T.V. I really didn't understand what the fuss was about though, I remember saying "cool" when I saw the plane crash into the towers on the news.
Anyway, I'm 15 now and I understand a lot about 9/11. Every year since it happened the schools normally do something to honor the people who risked their lives to save the people in the burning building as well as lives lost.
I have come to believe that the problem in forgetting what happened and moving on is the fact that the U.S. is big on "Freedom" and what is taught in my school is not the destruction of the building, but how and why it was destroyed as well as the pride the U.S. takes in being free.
I can't really put what I'm thinking it to words, but the Twin Towers symbolized our country, pride, and freedom, like the Statue of Liberty, which was close to being hit as well.
I have no clue if anyone already knows this, I'm just saying what I've been told and have come to understand. _________________ “When it hurts to look back, and you're scared to look ahead, you can look beside you and your best friend will be there.”
