Too bad sequels are the way to go if for publishers anyway, also coming in 2008:
Far Cry 2: I love the original and looks like the sequel will be great too. it isn't made by Crytek anymore though (they made Crysis :p ) but Far Cry 2 looks awesome and is definately worth checking into in my opinion.
Empire: Total War: a new Total War game, takes place in the time of napoleon etc... Next to the huge battles on land there will be huge sea battles too Too bad almost everyone will be forced to upgrade their pc to play this game
Fallout 3: A new fallout should be released in the fall of 2008, can't wait
Tiberium: A shooter in the Command & Conquer universe, looks nice but so did Renegade and that was one of the worst shooters I've ever played. Looks like battlefield in C&C.
Project Origin: The true sequel to F.E.A.R., Monolith left Vivendi and went to Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment. So now Vivendi has the rights for the name (F.E.A.R.) and Monolith has the rights for all the in-game characters, etc... - F.E.A.R. 2 is coming too, but I don't have a clue when.
As you can see, all of these titles are sequels or use an existing franchise. Which won't stop me to try them out because all of the games look great and are sequels to great games. And all of them should be (I'm saying should be :p ) released in 2008. _________________ .// Proud to be Lifeless for more then 4 years \\. |

So far in the list I am excited for:
Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Been a fan of the series since it came out for the Nintendo 64. I didn't play much of the Melee version other than just playing multiplayer against friends. I actually played the original version with some friends not too long ago.
Spore: I've been waiting for this one for years it seems. I think they hyped it up too early in the process of development; so in a sense they lost a lot of steam when it was delayed. Hopefully we will see this one; I really don't want it to be cancelled.
Starcraft 2 will also be good, because number 1 - it's Starcraft, and number 2 - Blizzard (one of the best PC developers) is making it. I'll leave it at that.
The new Mario Kart will also be good, because they haven't made one yet that I didn't like or didn't play. I loved the one for DS as reviewed on my site: http://thegamersjournal.com/ra.....riokartds/ _________________ The Gamer's Journal | Online Portfolio | Half-Life Library | UNDATA |

Sequels are nice, but original games are good as well. Gaming would be dull if everything was a sequel, port or remake of an already existing game.
If you're looking for original games, here is a few:
No More Heroes looks to be a decent game, and it was released earlier this year. It's full of violence and gore, if you enjoy that type of game.
Coming in June is De Blob for Wii and DS. It's an action/puzzle game where you need to bring the color back to the city. It looks a little similar to the Katamari Damacy series. _________________ http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Main_Page

I personally cannot wait for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. : Clear Skys to come out! _________________ [img:8728bad64c]http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc118/jthomsonmain/l2psig.jpg[/img:8728bad64c] |

| I'm counting the days until I can go redeem my preorder receipt for a shiny new copy of Super Smash Bros Brawl. A quick check on the GameCube shows that my brother and I combined have logged between 250 and 300 hours of gameplay total on Super Smash Bros Melee...I'm looking forward to doing the same a third time around. |

Oh man I've been addicted to Burnout Paradise ever since its release. I had my doubts because everyone was talking bad about it without even playing it, but I am a hardcore Burnout fan (okay so maybe not THAT hardcore... But it's not my fault they didn't release Burnout 3 on the Gamecube!) and I bought it on day 1 anyways.
I don't regret it. It's the most fun I've had gaming in a long time. The single player is great and there's a lot to do to keep you busy for a very long time (the replay value in single player alone is endless), but the real deal is online play.
The online gameplay is just so seamless and fun. The whole purpose is to just chill, hangout with your friends, drive around the city and do challenges or run races. It's the best online experience I have ever had on Xbox Live, and I have almost all of the top selling titles for the 360.
I don't think the demo does it much justice. If you're cool with the driving style (which you should, since it's still Burnout) then you'll grow to love Paradise.
Anyways, I didn't mean this to be a review but I get worked up about it. haha.
I don't have a Wii but I would love to give Super Smash Bros Brawl a try when it comes out. I'll just make sure my cousins get it. _________________ Come visit Shattered Abstracts! (Photoblog!) |

I am surprised no one has mentioned Grand Theft Auto, it sounding like it will be pretty great game. I haven't played the more recent ones but I played GTA 3 before and it was a fun game and I also played Saint's Row, which is basically the same concept. There seems to be a lot of excitement over it, so hopefully it isn't a let down. _________________ Tutorial Management Script - Version 1.4 Released

Dang, I'm sorry guys, I shoulda posted here more, but i didn't get any emails notifying me of reply . The new GTA looks really cool. From the screens, it looks like they are focusing on getting good graphics into the large open environment. _________________ [img:8728bad64c]http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc118/jthomsonmain/l2psig.jpg[/img:8728bad64c] |

Finally, haha. GTA3 was terrible for frame rate issues, and it was mainly due to bad optimization. Vice City did an incredible job at optimizing the game to run better on normal systems. On the same system, Vice City ran smooth while GTA3 was choppy.
I have no doubts that GTA4 will not run well on my desktop so I'll probably end up getting it for the Xbox 360 if I do get it. _________________ Come visit Shattered Abstracts! (Photoblog!) |

I'm not interested in the new Grand Theft Auto. The GTA series is just repetitive. Each sequel seems to be only a slight upgrade of the last. Perhaps the newest one wont be the same, but I doubt it.
I believe this is a pretty accurate release date schedule (which includes the games listed in this topic, as well as some other key releases):
(Note- This is for North America only)
| Quote: | February
25- Destroy All Humans: Big Willy Unleashed
26- Lost: Via Domus
March
4- Bully: Scholarship Edition
9- Super Smash Brothers Brawl
25: Okami (Wii port), Far Cry 2
(Quarter 2)
Metal Gear Solid 4 (April, May or June)
April
Mario Kart Wii- no exact day yet.
29- Grand Theft Auto 4
June
19- Destroy All Humans: Path of the Furon
27- De Blob
September
7- Spore, Spore Creatures (Nintendo DS version of Spore)
November
Fable 2- no exact day yet
--No official date yet, but a 2008 release is confirmed/very likely--
Empire: Total War
Halo Wars- rumored to be late in the year
Killzone 2
TNA Impact- summer of this year |
Overall, it looks to be a pretty decent year for games. Some months are poor, but so what? You only can play a few games at once. It's a bit silly to buy many games each month, just to have several just sit for a while.
Feel free to update the list, I think I covered most of the big releases... but it's likely I missed some. _________________ http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Main_Page

I just found out about another one, probably old news to many people here
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3: back to the war between the U.S. and the Russians Will be a great game (unless in some way they mess up real bad). One of the best RTS franchises gets another sequel, looks like they're firing up Command & Conquer again. After Command & Conquer 3, the announcement of the new shooter Tiberium, now a sequel to Red Alert. C&C fans are being spoiled! _________________ .// Proud to be Lifeless for more then 4 years \\. |
