I assume that the overload of the server was once again cause of somebody submitting something to digg. Its quite annoying that this keeps happening.
So wouldn't it be smart to add a line to the ToU that no site on LLP may be submitted to digg. That would have the positive effect off:
-Aesir overloads less cause it doesn't get hammered by diggers
-Less headaches for Trel

Being dugg should be okay--quotas that will prevent the server from crashing upon being dugg are too, though!

The big issue just seems to be MySQL. Trel has said that if you submit something to Digg, you should go through the trouble to make the page static without any dynamic content on it. I think that alone should help, if not completely solve it. Like Stwong said, some reasonable quotas might be needed.

If a user without superuser privileges can crash your machine, you need quotas on something--even if it's something like '50% CPU per user max, 90% for the general userbase max' to just keep VIPs and the forums online.

That said, I'd be the first to digg thi thread's poster if that rule went into place.

Just a humorous way of pointing out that flaw.

''Copy and paste this link!'' would get around it, tinyurl might, so on. This would also have side effects--like the link to my site in my digg profile not working.

It's pointless to try to avoid a digging or Slashdotting--the servers and linked pages just have to be set up to deal with it.

Quotas and caching on high traffic pages are good.
