I'm in my first year of higher education, should be my second but last year didn't go very well (I was studying journalism then, which turned out to be boring and uninteresting Very Happy ).

I'm studying ICT (not the correct name, but I don't know how to translate it :p ) now and it's going much better.

I think the right question here would be, who is not a student.

He said that because the majority here are students, myself included.

Obviously, it would be better to ask a question to which the majority can reply rather than one to which very few can reply (myself included). Wink

Considering the original poster later said he was more interested in what everyone was studying rather than if they are in school, this shouldn't be that big of an issue

I'm in 5th year secondary education, industrial science. (Would have been 6th if it wasn't for a retarded teacher though).

Doh... didn't realise I missed the whole point of this thread. Civil Engineering / Management. I didn't want to spend my career in front of a computer and I've heard enough about the IT industry and seen a reasonable amount first hand to deter me from choosing IT which would have otherwise been the natural choice for me. Also, I am yet to lose all sense of morals and ethics so Civil Eng and the whole "serving society" thing appealed to me.

Same for me. At first I thought computer science would be a logical choice for me, but the type of work that is usually done in the IT sector didn't seem very enjoyable. Although I don't mind a career involving much computer work, I would enjoy it more if there is a creative side to it (which is the case with 'Digital media design').

I'm not a native English speaker, so.. is someone going to high school considered to be a 'student'? Or student applies only when you are in university? I'm a bit confused with the meaning of the word.. If not, how is someone going to high school called?

'Student' applies to anyone who is following education. When talking about primary schools I would rather use 'pupil', though.
I believe that, officially, the word 'student' is only used for higher education (at universities and vocational universities, for example). But in the United States all schoolchildren can be referred to as students.
Not sure what the official term would be for people who are in secondary education...
But it doesn't really matter for this thread, we use the 'loose term'. Smile

I am in my last (summer) semester of my Bachelor of Visual Communications (Applied Arts) program. During two of the summers of the three year program I have had to get work terms, which technically count as classes, and technically make the program four years total of school. During the summer work terms we have to write a report each month while we are working (usually 3 or 4 months total), on top of passing employee evaluations.

I have to reach 450 hours total before deciding to leave the job, or stay on after I get my degree. Right now it's looking like I am either going to leave, or ask for more money after I legally finish the work term. As it stands, I am employed as a Graphic/Web Designer, which by all accounts, or at least from what i've heard make at least 40k a year starting out of college. Right now, I'm making around half of that... but mostly due to my own stupidity (I offered myself real cheap during the interview because I was desperate at the time). Anyways, that probably wasn't really all the relevant Silly.
