I love Fanzone! If ever I'm watching a game on a Sunday afternoon, I insist on having it on. It's definitely FAR more entertaining than the "professionals"!

As far as Arsenal are concerned, it seems that they, along with Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton, have a bit of a break from the midweek matches. Everyone else is playing but for some reason these four teams aren't. I can't imagine why, as it's not like there are any European games this week. Very strange!

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have to play the second leg of their Carling Cup semi final at The Emirates Stadium, on Wednesday night. I don't understand why Manchester City and Everton don't have a game though Confused. The reason that Bolton Wanderers and Arsenal are replaying their Football Association Cup game is that England play a friendly against Spain, on Wednesday 7th February, at Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium.

Manchester City were actually scheduled to play Arsenal tonight, but the Carling Cup fixture took greater importance, so we have another game to add to our fixture pile-up

It is indeed Tattenham Hotspuds tonight, following on from the two goal apiece game in Middlesex last week. The away goals only count after extra time, so we really need to get the job done inside the initial ninety.

Arsene Wenger has promised quite a strong subsitutes bench, so I guess he will be starting with the under thirteens, and bringing on the big guns if all is not going well.

I'd forgotten about the Carling Cup game. Oops!

Oh well, it all went according to Arsenal's plan and they now face CSKA Fulham in the final. Without, it would seem, Gunners' favourite Cashley Cole, who suffered a freak knee injury when he landed awkwardly under no pressure from the opposition.

Hmm...let me see now...freak knee injury...now WHO do I know suffered one of those...

It would seem that the injury to Cashley Cole was not in fact as serious as first thought, and he could recover in time to face Arsenal in The Carling Cup Final on the twentyfifth of this month at The Milennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Yesterdays draw with Middlesborough at The Riverside once again brings the ineptness of referee, Mike Riley to the fore. He had another absolute shocker, and for me is not even fit to referee at Subbuteo game, leave alone a match of importance in The English Premiership. The penalty decision was a joke in itself, and the red card that followed was nothing short of dispicable. The encroachment by the Middlesborough players meant that the spot kick should have been retaken, but yet again Riley could not see past the end of his oversized hooter to spot the blatently obvious.

Still Thierry Henry popped up with a timely equaliser, and an exquisite finish to boot. Two points dropped, however Liverpool also drew yesterday, so we have lost no ground there, and are still in position for that automatic Champions League slot.

I'll bet there were smiling faces on Gooners everywhere yesterday when Manchester United spanked Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 in their won back yard.

To be fair, it was a fairly even first half but a very dodgy penalty awarded after a blatent dive by - who else - Cristiano Ronaldo gave Manchester United the lead, which they never relinquished. I think the scoreline flattered them but I'm sure that doesn't matter to Arsenal fans, who no doubt were grinning from ear to ear!

Strange that you should mention it really! It is one of those fixtures, whereby the Arsenal supporter really wants to see both teams lose. Obviously this is not possible, so the next best thing is to see Middlesex being tonked on their own patch. Obviously also, no-one wants to see CSKA Fulham buy another Premiership Crown, and certainly do not wish to see them join the elite band of teams with three back to back Championships, so Manchester United must be given every opportunity to take away the possibility of it happening, given that Arsenal and Liverpool are in no position to do anything themselves to stop it.

Next up for Arsenal is Sundays home fixture against Wigan Athletic at Ashburton Grove, which is live on the goggle-box. With a round of International friendlies this midweek, we will have to wait to see who returns back to Arsenal Colney before debating who should start the match.

I think that Arsenal can beat Wigan without any doubts. Arsenal is one of the best teams in England and is full of young talents and experienced players.
And that combination of experience and youth will give the club lots of championships and cups in the future.
Manchester and Chelsea will lose points, but we need to win all matches to have opportunities to win the Premier League, and don't forget the FA cup, the League Cup and the Champions League.

I can't see Arsenal having any problems against Wigan either. They had a heck of a season last year playing on adrenalin and did very well but look where they are this year. It's the same with all newly-promoted clubs; they either struggle all season or they treat every game like a cup final and get by on sheer adrenalin and hard graft. It'll be the same with Reading I'm sure. They are up in the top half this year and, if they keep plugging away and getting results, they might even qualify for European football but the reality is that they will need to spend a lot of money in the off season to stand any chance of staying up there with the big boys next year. Just look where Wigan are now compared to last season and tell me I'm right!

No game against Wigan will be easy, and they are another of those teams that frustrate Arsenal, get up and among the players, and make football very difficult.

Although I can't see past three Arsenal points, I don't think that this will be the stroll in the park that people are predicting.

There are still no real clues as to Arsene Wengers selected squad, so it will be quite difficult to predict a scoreline. As always, I will be hoping that Theo Walcott gets a start, especially tomorrow, as he will tear the Wigan Athletic defence apart, and run them ragged, meaning anything created late on in the game may well pay dividends.

You were right about it being a difficult game! Losing 1-0 at half time to Wigan was definitely not on the script and boy did Arsenal leave it late to end up winning 2-1.

Liverpool losing to Newcastle (I don't think I'll ever get bored of saying that!) means that Arsenal are only a point behind them with a game in hand.

There is a lot to catch up on this week. Firstly, the win against Wigan Athletic, and I really can never grow tired of watching the winner from Tomas Rosicky. The move, the cross, the header, the reaction from the supporters and the reaction of the commentator. Very reminiscent of the glory days of terraces.

The midweek win over Bolton Wanderers in The FA Cup was inspired. To be fair, if I had been offered a penalty shoot out prior to kick-off I would have taken it, but to grab a three goals to one win was beyond all expectations. This led to a home game against Blackburn Rovers at Ashburton Grove yesterday. Blackburn Rovers themselves were (un)fresh from a midweek European fixture, yet Arsenal failed to show anything until very late on in the game, only to be matched by Brad Freidel who was in superb form. So another replay, and yet another fixture to clog up an already busy few weeks.

Next up is The Champions League:

PSV Eindhoven Vs Arsenal

UEFA Champions League

Tuesday 20th February 2007

Phillips Stadion 7:45pm

[img:93b610640a]http://www.soccermania.dk/layout-stadionbilleder/psv%20stadion%20ude2.jpg[/img:93b610640a]

Arsenal travel to Holland looking to ensure safe passage through the knockout stages. Games at PSV are never easy, so nothing can be taken for granted. But coming back to Ashburton Grove will not be easy for PSV Eindhoven, and I fancy a couple of goals away there, but all teams get to this stage on merit and not luck, so really, I should not start counting my chickens before those eggs have hatched!

PSV Eindhoven (*** SHUDDERS *** don't mention Eindhoven to me, please Crying or Very sad) have won the last two Dutch Championships and won at the weekend, with a two - nil away win. They are currently five points clear of their big rivals Ajax. They have a really impressive home record too:

Won: 11
Drawn: 0
Lost: 1
For: 42
Against: 8

Their away form isn't too bad either:

Won: 8
Drawn: 3
Lost: 2
For: 19
Against: 7

although the lack of goals away from home will be a concern for PSV Coach Ronald Koeman, and should give Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger some encouragement for the return leg in just over a fortnight's time. Arsenal really have to be on the money tonight to get anything from this first leg.

Theo Walcott and Abou Diaby have been left behind, with Arsene Wenger having one eye on the Carling Cup Final against Chelsea on Sunday, in Cardiff. Emmanuel Eboue and Justin Hoyte have not travelled either - Eboue with an ankle knock and Hoyte has a hamstring problem. This could mean that William Gallas could play just his second game back after injury, at right back. Alexander Hleb could also make the starting eleven.

Disappointed on the outcome of today's game against PSV. But I still think Manchester's better...Smile

Well, only a 1-0 loss so it's not insurmountable. I honestly thought Arsenal would have scored at least one away goal but their goalkeeper was on fire last night. No wonder they've only conceded a total fifteen goals in the league so far this season. He's like a Dutch version of Shay Given!
