background on pictures made transparent

I would like the background on these two pictures made transparent(or solid colour so i can make transparent), so only the characters are left

I have tried doing this myself, but i'm not very good and i get jagged lines and white patches. The second one will be harder than the first, but i need both done

[Perpetual]

Use Photoshop, zoom in as far as you can, then erase around the border of what you want....very precisely. After that it is very easy to delete the rest of the background.
