I'm totally exited about this game Very Happy for those of you that don't know the game: it's a free 2 play battlefield game! It has graphics in the style of Team Fortress 2 and it's made for casual gamers, so for the people that don't play all day Smile It does look awesome though and because they want as many people as possible to play it, it will be possible to play the game on a 1Ghz processor, 512mb ram and an integrated 3d card Smile

If you're interested go to http://www.battlefield-heroes.com/. Coming this summer Wink

It looked rather entertaining in the trailer, but I'm not sold yet. I will probably give it a try when it comes out though, just to see if I like the gameplay.
If it's good I hope it will be LAN-enabled. Smile

I don't know if it will be LAN-enabled, because I've read that you'll start the game through they're website (apparently there will be a giant "PLAY NOW" button). Of course it would be cool if you could play over LAN, but if not I won't mind if the gameplay is good.

And the game will be free so I don't see why you wouldn't try it out, since the system specifications are really low too Smile

For people that wonder how they'll make money: advertising on the website and an item shop. People that hate item shops: the developers promised that they won't sell items that would give paying players advantages over non-paying players. They'll sell items that let you customize your character (glasses, beards, pants, shirt, etc... ) or items that will let you gather xp faster (yes, looks like you'll have to level up Very Happy ).

I'm a Battlefield fan and I am also excited about this. It's sort of a casual game that you play when you don't have the game installed, for example, when you are in schools, or in a cybercafe with no Battlefield installed.

But what's more exciting is Battlefield 3, which is coming in late-2008.

It does require a download, you'll have to download the game and start it via the website. I guess the website is required for most things: register an account, download the game, start the game. I guess they'll try to make an easy to use portal since this game is focused on the casual gamer.

It will be different than the other Battlefield games in more ways though. You'll have to pick a class at the beginning of the game and stick with that (so no changing between rounds :p ). Looks like every game needs some (MMO)RPG influences these days.

Same as what ijji is doing right now. Their downloaded games are started through a "Play Live" button on their website, and you can only use that to start the game. Executing the EXE file won't work.

If you know the games GunZ and Soldier Front (you can check it out at ijji if you want, it's free anyway), you will have to create your character on first start, then purchase a weapon using in-game money.

And as for using real currency to purchase items in-game, it's similar to MapleStory, where you use real money to purchase items to enhance your character, such as your hairstyle, double experience earn rate, etc.

There won't be any more custom modifications, since from what I know you have to connect to their server, and if you modify your game it may not work. They might accept custom modifications from the community and roll out as an update.

been reading up on this game
seems like they will offer a sniper class :p

also the fact that you'll be controll planes and make them pick up team members on the wings (1 on each wing) seems pretty cool
also you can jump out of a plane at any time and the plane will land softly

they will lower the power of tanks and planes though Smile

The ability to transport people on the wings of a plane is already available on current released versions of Battlefield. It's known as wingsurfing but you really need the skills to do it.

You can also jump out of a plane anytime and parachute down. The plane will continue to fly on, and will eventually crash, which leads to a new spawn for your teammates.

Sniper in other first-person shooter games, such as Counter-Strike, is more effective, because without all the vehicles and such, you can only rely on your weapon to kill, but in Battlefield, even a small jeep can kill, so not many people would care about the class (most will select a class randomly and jump into an aircraft/helicopter when available).

I read about this in the VISTA GAMING magazine or whatever its called. it's going to be cool, but reminds me too much of TF2. I'll download it when its released, and i hope its cool.

It'll be another great free fps! Probably can't bet America's Army though Smile

It's a totally different genre than America's Army. America's Army tries to be as realistic as possible and has slow, tactical gameplay while Battlefield: Heroes is made for the casual gamer and is more some arcade fun. So I guess it depends on what you like best: arcade or simulation Smile .

I am not sold on this game at all, it just seems to fall short of what I hoped for the title.

The thing is with f2p games is they normally are over hyped so when you finally do play the game its disappointing. Also they tend to be less populated then the larger payment games. Then the thing that makes it worse is a lot of the games have some kind of shop style thing that give players that can spend money and advantage over other players which tends to kill the games economy because the ones who cant or wont pay will over price things in order to get the stuff they are missing out on.

Truth is I am getting annoyed with MMOs in general, because the ones that are coming out cant seem to compete with the current greats like WoW, and the current games like WoW are to costly and seem more like a job and less like a game. I feel that the only way the MMO game genre is going to move ahead is to be more innovative and come with some thing that none of the current gamers have seen before.

Battlefield: Heroes isn't an MMO, but an online shooter made by a big-budget company so it will be different from other f2p games.

And yes it will have an item shop, but the creators promised that the only available items in the item shop will be parts to customize your character, they will not offer items that give a paying player an advantage over a not-paying player because most part of their profit will come from advertising.
