I just saw this movie, actually! It is a very good film, IMO, though as people said it did take a lot of liberties with the storyline!

I have to say that where I saw it, the animation seemed very. . .video-game-ish. If that is a word. Sort of real, but not really close. I, personally, liked how they played with the plot. It was a really interesting take on the legend.

Also, I just have to say, the dragon was awesome!

Angelina Jolie was a bit. . . odd. . .as Grendel's mother. But fit the changed storyline, certainly.

I would advise people, if you are interested in watching this movie, see it in the theater. what made it cool was stull like the dragon and Grendel, which would look 100x less impresive on a basic TV screen.

The movie was never meant to be true to the original poem. I think people are getting too hung up on this point, expecting it to be an exact reproduction of "Beowulf". It's an action movie, plain and simple. It may share elements of the original story, but it's not supposed to be completely accurate.

That being said my sister and I went to see it on Saturday night at an IMAX theater to get the whole IMAX 3-D experience. It was a sold out showing with people of all ages in the audience and clearly everyone was very enthusiastic about seeing it. Seeing something in IMAX is always a lot of fun because you get a whole new perspective on it being true to life with it standing out and this film from a visual aspect will not disappoint. It really had a lot of innovative, new things in it, and if someone was going to see it I would fully recommend seeing it in IMAX. Visually the film has a lot to offer for those who enjoy action and interesting color and something different.
Ugh.

I think I might have to see Beowulf again because the IMAX experience was so painful. The glasses I got didn't completely work -- most of the effects would come through, but there would always be about 10% of the picture that would still look as if I didn't have the glasses on at all. I had a headache throughout the entire movie, so I really couldn't enjoy it fully.
