I'm thinking of making a blog, so I was wondering which site (or sites) are the best?

It will probably just be me writing, so I don't care if it has image support or not. It must be free, and easy to use. I don't use html or any of that.

I suppose Wordpress.com is one of the most popular ones right now.

Nope!

Blogger.com is still the first.

WordPress.com may come second.

Blogger.com is still mostly preferred because it has already been around for a long time. I have seen people creating websites with Blogger, and majority, if not, all the blogs I go to are using Blogger.

I would prefer Blogger for its features, and WordPress.com for WordPress (it looks nice).

If you want to make a non profit blog on some specific theme, or even a personal blog, and you'd like to attract a steady stream of readers, I recommend http://livejournal.com

LJ offers a rich set of features, but the best thing? It offers a large variety of communities where you can find similar-minded people who can be persuaded to read your stuff. It's been around for ages and therefore has lots and lots of people and activity.

If what you want is customization and the ability to create your own identity on the blog without much interference from the host (by ads and extra topbars), then go with http://wordpress.com

Places like myspace are better avoided in my opinion. They're ugly, awful and absolutely full of ads.

And idiots!

I prefer Wordpress myself, mostly because I am familiar with it, and it is powerful.

I agree, my first choice would be blogger, simply because it's been around the longest and everybody and their mama has one.

My second choice would be a wordpress.com blog, simply because unlike blogger, you have more control of what your blog feels and looks like. Also, wordpress comes with Akismet, a powerful spam protection plugin for Wordpress.

Both services are free, filled with customization and you can have a simple blog up and running within a matter of clicks.

I'd definitely go with WordPress. I didn't much like Blogger back when I used it.

I've got a Blogger blog, and I don't really have many problems with it. Made a slightly modification to one of the default templates to use my own banner and colours, but other than that, I just write posts, and get comments from friends, and comment back on their comments, so I don't really use it for anything special.

So yeah, although I haven't tried anything else, I've had not problems with it.

I tried LJ, Blogger, but I like Wordpress best because of its simplicity and ease of use. Besides, I use Wordpress for implementations at my hosting site, not sure if LJ and Blogger is possible?

I noticed after submitting that post.

But I'm too lazy to edit. Sad

I would say Blogger.com is easier to maintain, because as far as I know, you need your own domain and hosting for Wordpress.

So really, Blogger is a lot simpler and easier to use. The only drawback is that you can't pick your own domain- but you can still make money with them.

Good luck!

We are talking about WordPress.com here. They actually host a modded multi user edition of WordPress (the blog software) so they can provide blogs to people who register on the site. Which means you don't need hosting at all.
