Nope. Always been there. www.wordpress.com offers free hosted blogs using the WP software, www.wordpress.org allows you to download the WP software to host on your site.

Almost. WordPress.com uses WordPress MU (Multi User), which is also available for download: http://mu.wordpress.org/

I would say Blogger.com is easier to maintain, because as far as I know, you need your own domain and hosting for Wordpress.

So really, Blogger is a lot simpler and easier to use. The only drawback is that you can't pick your own domain- but you can still make money with them.

Good luck!

We are talking about WordPress.com here. They actually host a modded multi user edition of WordPress (the blog software) so they can provide blogs to people who register on the site. Which means you don't need hosting at all.
And WordPress.com seems to be endorsed by WordPress.org. You can find the link to WordPress.com at WordPress official site.

It's pretty easy to write one's own blog software (I've done it and I use it on my website), you just need to look up some basic PHP and MySQL to figure out how to insert into the database and read from it.. That way you can get exactly the features you want and no extra fluff just clogging up space.

Livejournal and Blogger are both very easy to use, free and come with variety of templates. Wordpress is much more powerful and definitely a better choice if you plan to create a blog that will be organized, fully customized and overall more professional. Wink

Well, if it has to be free I'd go with Wordpress. Or, I could host one for you if you don't mind a ".skatethinkrevolt.net" subdomain. None of the free services have modifyable templates, or plugins.
