I mostly like all war movies cause I'm usually forced to watch them (Damn Mom xD). Though I highly would say the ones I own are the good ones.

I have
300 which is about Sparta.
Flags of our Fathers which is about The Battle of Iwo Jima going into WWII (World War 2).
The New World which is the people version of Pochantas
Fly Boys, a killer war movie that is about The adventures of the Lafayette Escadrille, young Americans who volunteered for the French military before the U.S. entered World War I, and became the country's first fighter pilot (Love this movie)
Saving Private Ryan Award Winning which is about World War II US soldiers try to save their comrade, paratrooper Private Ryan, who's stationed behind enemy lines.
Tora Tora Tora Is an old version of the war at Pearl harbor.
Midway is another great World War II movie.
The longest Day and my moms favourte is The events of D-Day, told on a grand scale from both the Allied and German points of view.

I still think Saving Private Ryan is one of the best war movies, and it's just the war movie that made the biggest impression on me. I really liked it.

Especially the invasion in Normandy is really great.

I also really liked Band of Brothers (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0185906/) though that was a television series, not a movie. But I even think that series were even better than Saving Private Ryan, though their both my recommendations Wink

Anyone who hasn't seen them yet should definitely watch them.

I don't know much about Jarhead, but I heard it was pretty terrible from a lot of people. I believe most stated that it wasn't really a war movie at all but more of just a drama.

I'd suggest watching Letters from Iwo Jima which is the film that goes with Flags of our Fathers, and tells it from the Japanese point of view. Also for WWII films I'd suggest the Big Red One, which is about the US 1st Army during WWII. There's Gallipoli, which is more drama than war, but still a good Mel Gibson film based in World War I.

Also if you're interested in comedy films based in WWII, there's also the British film How I Won The War, which typical of British humor is pretty hilarious to me. IF you don't really like British humor however, don't go see this one.

Otherwise, you really did suggest an extremely good list. Personally I thought the Last Samurai was ehhh, and there were several historical inaccuracies in the costumes, and other things of the era depicted in the film. However, thats expected with any war film Smile so it's all good.
Out of your whole list I'd say my favoriate is... TaeGukGi with Jang Dong Gun, and Won Bin. I remember seeing this when it came out. It's pretty awesome Very Happy

I am really glad that somebody finally mentioned Tora! Tora! Tora! and Midway. Both were excellent stories.

The Great Escape and Stalag 17 were also great movies, although both were centered around German war prison camps instead of the war themselves.

I am surprised some John Wayne movies weren't listed. The Fighting Seabees. The Flying Leathernecks. There are a lot of good classic war movies out there, it seems like you guys are mostly scraping from the past 15 years Very Happy

I've only seen Saving Private Ryan and Glory. Glory was great, although at times it got a little boring. Saving Private Ryan I think, tried way too hard to be realistic, although some of it was amazing.

I don't think my opinion counts for very much though, since I generally hate war movies. Bah.
