I was thinking of writing a community welcome letter and thought it might be a good idea that the community welcome letter be a collaborative effort of the community to welcome new members.

What do you think should be included in the welcome letter to help people get started? Smile

I think there should be a short explanation of the point system and reference to site rules and hosting information.

That is a good start.

If anyone would care to write a paragraph or two or five, we can certainly make it a collaborative effort (Read: An effort that makes it so Trel doesn't have to write it. Very Happy).

Hello and welcome to Lifelesspeople.com,

Lifelesspeople, or LLP/L2P for short, is a free webhost that is supported by an active community.
[..] (some more intro-talk)

LLP offers free webhosting to members of the community through the unique Pay-by-Post system. Participating in the community via the forum is rewarded with points, which can be used to 'pay' for the hosting service.
[..] (reference to the point explanation page?)

- - -

Little time now, so maybe I'll write some more stuff later. Smile

This could be used, but that's not all.

The letter should include URLs to KB articles which can help beginners to start at L2P. Things include what is PBPP, VSP, RDP, how to sign up for hosting, the plans, and how it work.

All these are normally thought by one who wants to get free hosting, but he will need to know what to do to get it.

And how about after the letter you post some of the users thoughts. You know, like testimonials Wink

Jorjel says: "Great community, great hosting!"

Maybe it's just me, but testimonials turn me off.

If I were new, I'd want to know everything about everything (if possible); a letter that is clear, and isn't trying to pull me anywhere (not persuasive or intrusive in anyway... so don't turn it into an infomercial.)

Just my two cents.

Perhaps we should create a testimonial thread that can be referred to in the welcome letter.

Yes, indeed. A topic with testimonials to be referred to would be better. And Neil's starting letter is quite good. So, what's it gonna be?

And testimonials should be made by L2P users who have been here for 1.5 years and more than a certain post count, to make it believable. Wink

But what if we hate Lifelesspeople.com and its community? Wink

Kidding aside, if there are testimonials, it should be fully fleshed out testimonials (like a couple paragraphs) as opposed to one-line quotes.

One-line testimonials tend to be tacky.
