I'd like some feedback on part of a new website for me. Currently the only real part I'm looking for is the layout as most of the content isn't finished yet, as i don't like the way the content/navigation colours are.

I originally had it so that the starry background showed through them, but white stars and white text caused problems, so i changed them to having a solid background, but i cant seem to work out a colour that is good, or a way to make it transparent like, so that the image shows through, but is faded so that the text is more clearer. I like the background and don't really want to get rid of it

What do you think would be the best solution to the problem?

Edit: Helps if i include the url

Transparent PNGs would probably work well. Here's one I threw together using the background color you're using:

[img:dc9f41e5f4]http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/5117/backgroundnl4.png[/img:dc9f41e5f4]

It's at 80% opacity, open up GIMP or photoshop and play around to get the effect you like.

Use CSS to set opacity for the background. That's how you do it:

You could also use a semi-transparent PNG image as a background, but keep in mind that Internet Explorer 6 doesn't support them.

i think i've found a problem with using transparency through CSS is that everything in the div (text, form fields) is affected by the transparency change, so you can see the background through them which i dont want, so i think i could be looking at the transparent PNG option if i cant sort the text etc out

I think that this new site is working a lot better graphically then your Sailor Moon one for several reasons. Everything on this site matches very nicely together. In your sailor moon one there is a bunch of elements that don't seem to work together, this is not a problem for your Star Wars one. But I guess I will stop comparing the two sites and focus more on this one Smile.

Everything is very clean on this site, and there is a nice size variation of the main font to give higher focus to keywords and headlines. I love the blue you used in the card section. There seems to be a problem in the html/css of your pages though. When I scroll odnw to the bottom of some pages the text is actually getting cut off... I can't scroll any further down, but there is content that is getting cut off.

Happens in Opera and Safari, and most likely in older versions of Internet Explorer. It happens on any page that goes past the total browser height. So a page like Card List is effected because the content goes past the maximum height. So basically I will scroll down to the very bottom of the page, yet the table entry "Saga Begins 1 20 1 scene The Saga Begins Weird Al Video" will be half cut off even when scrolled down to the very maximum. Most likely a CSS glitch.

About the transparency problem, I had to figure that one out last month and here's a link I found on google to be useful:

great, but what language is it in? I can't read it

I actually got the transparency problem sorted, just not the one drath said about above, since i dont use Opera or Safari its very hard to check it, and i don't really want to install them

I remember there was a site that gave you screenshots of what your site would look like in different browsers, does anyone know it as i can remembers its address

To answer your question: No it doesn't appear on any page on midnighttempest, only your new site.

so its obviously a difference between them, since they both use virtually identical css files

The only difference is in the complete div, the one that centers everything on page
margin-bottom:40px;
that and the background images in content and navigation
