I would just like to make sure that we can still switch our domain after we sign up for a hosting plan...as in... if we sign up for one now (a hosting plan), and then later buy a domain (www.something.com rather than www.blah.l2p.net), we can replace our new domain with the one already given, right? And if so...how do you do that?
Thank you! |

All the accounts come with the option to add addon domains, and parked domains.
You can easily edit these domains via the control panel.
Parked Domains is what i think you are interested in. It'll point to the same files as your default domain will. So there is no need to delete the l2p.net one that you have. You can use both and they'll goto the same files.
Addon domains lets you add other domains and with those you can create totally different sites with the existing hosting since they usually point to a subforum within your main directory.
So simple answer: Yup. _________________ http://www.damnidunno.com | http://www.mjhq.net | http://www.rebx.net |

i think what hes talking about is moving from a sub domain account to a domain account
I think you have to submit a support ticket and let Trel sort it out, im not sure but i dont think add-on and parked domains are available in a sub domain account, best to check _________________ Midnight Tempest - A Sailor Moon TCG

Er... now I'm totally confused...at first when I read Scar's comment I thought I understood it but Desbrina kind of confused me. So is a parked domain just kind of like a "mask" for my subdomain thinger? And also what's the difference between a sub domain account to a domain account?
Oh Desbrina, I'm a girl not a guy. And let me clarify. See right now, I'm looking at some names at namecheap and I'm thinking of buying a domain. However... I don't have the money to do so right now, so I thought I'd get my content put into my hosting and put up the site, then later put on the domain so that no precious time is really wasted, that way, while I'm waiting for the money to come, I can make my website.
So would I have to do what Scar told me to do or do what Desbrina told me to do? |

Let me try to clarify how it works.
We offer webhosting accounts with the packages listed on the website. These packages are listed with all features, but all features are only available with a purchase top level domain such as a .com address. These are called domain accounts because you use a domain with them.
Subdomain accounts have restricted features such as no subdomains, parked domains, or addon domains (for more on each of these features search the forum or Google). The accounts are basically the same except for the subdomain account's restricted features in this area. _________________ * Knowledge Base * Wiki * Forum FAQs * |

So in my situation, should I just wait to get my TLD and then sign up for the domain account? Or is it possible to change my subdomain account to a domain account after i purchase my TLD? _________________ [img:6cd20cfab0]http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/8926/mavendarksiggyxb7.jpg[/img:6cd20cfab0] |

To make it simple.
In your case now, you wanted to use a subdomain of LifelessPeople. But you asked whether you can switch to a TLD domain if you wanted to.
The answer is yes. Open a support ticket at the helpdesk (link found at the header where it says "Support").
As for addon domains and parked domains, they are only available on an account which uses a TLD domain. Which means, if you uses a subdomain of LifelessPeople (*.l2p.net), these features are not available. But however, if you ever switch to a TLD domain, these features becomes available.
An account using a LifelessPeople subdomain is a Subdomain Account, whereas an account using a TLD domain of yours, is a Domain Account.
Domain Account gets more features than a Subdomain Account.
Addon domains are used when you want to host more domains on your account. Let's say you registered yourdomain.com and you used it to register a hosting account here.
Supposing you get mydomain.com too, and you want to use it for another website, you can just create a directory in yourdomain.com (let's say yourdomain.com/mydomain), then use the "Addon Domains" feature to add mydomain.com to your hosting account, then point to /mydomain. It's like assigning a domain to a directory.
And for parked domains, they are also used for hosting domains on your account, but the concept is different. If you park a domain, it will just redirect to the domain you used with your hosting account (earlier on we said yourdomain.com). It will not redirect to mydomain.com (an addon domain we mentioned earlier). But if you park mydomain.com or any other domains, it will redirect to yourdomain.com.
Summary:
Examples:
- yourdomain.com - You used this when you registered your hosting account, or you used this when you switch from your LifelessPeople subdomain
- mydomain.com - Another domain you bought, you want to use it with LifelessPeople too, for another website
Addon Domains - You already used yourdomain.com for a website here, but you want to use mydomain.com here, but for another website. You can add mydomain.com as an addon domain for another website, hosted here.
Parked Domains - Suddenly you shut down mydomain.com, but you want the old visitors to go to yourdomain.com. Park mydomain.com, and they will get to yourdomain.com. If they go to mydomain.com/forum, they will get redirected to yourdomain.com/forum. If they go to yourdomain.com/wiki, they will get redirected to mydomain.com/wiki. _________________ Jacky
