|
|
I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium and i have an exe file on my desktop thats starting to get on my nerves now. Its one that i have downloaded but i can't seem to delete it no matter what i have tried. When i try it says that the file is in use, but its not in use.
If i reboot and try to delete it then it still says the file is in use. I've tried deleting it through safe mode but again it still says the file is in use.
Its an installation files for a program that i installed a couple of days ago and not been able to delete it since.
How do i get this file deleted since its no longer of any use? I've tried all i can think of _________________ Midnight Tempest - A Sailor Moon TCG

Have you tried uninstalling the program first? _________________

check the task manager to see if the executable is running in that case. _________________

Sometimes there are some strange permissions in certain files/folders that don't allow you to delete them.. If you remove those restrictions (if there are) you may be able to delete them.
(try this, http://techhooked.com/forum/in.....;hl=Vista, see from "Select all the folders you wish to delete." and below) _________________ It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

1 Have you ever tried File Pulverizer? Visit http://www.toplang.com/filepulverizer.htm, not sure if it work under vista.
2 And there is a easier way, but you need WinRAR installed on your computer. Right click that file and Delete files after archiving.
3 A live linux CD would help. |

I agree with kenoodo. Get a linux live CD, boot it up and have it mount your Windows drive (most do it automatically for you) and then browse to your desktop folder and delete the file.
That shouldn't give you any problems unless that distro doesn't support editing of NTFS file systems. _________________ Come visit Shattered Abstracts! (Photoblog!) |

I actually advice against that. Vista uses a newer NTFS version than XP so it might cause issues. _________________

You might try this little app, it's very handy. It will allow you to unlock (remove the process) that any program or file is using and let you delete it, or you can set it to automatically delete the file upon next reboot.
I found this program years ago for similar problems in XP. Now they updated it to work with Vista. It's free and works perfect
