If I had a copy of a IPB would it be able to be hosted here?

You will need a valid license (which we will confirm) to run 2.1.x here.

http://www.lifelesswiki.com/wiki/Known_Conflicts - will show what versions of software will not likely run or that aren't allowed.

Ya, me too. Looks like all mySQL 5 issues have been sorted out.

By the way, do you contact IPS to check if we have valid licences? You are more evil than I thought. Shocked

I have been known to email Invision or Jelsoft (vB makers) to confirm licenses that people report might be pirated. Smile

As I have read elsewhere, one way to find out whether a IPB version is pirated or not is adding "ipscheck=1" to the address bar. For example, www.yoursite.com/index.php?ipscheck=1 would tell us if it's a pirated version or not.

Of course, Invision is the only people who could tell exactly about it. Wink

Not at all. Wink

It's not ?ipscheck=1 but ?ipscheck=1&key=ipscheck$1@@

Even if you enter that, what you will get cannot in any way prove that the particular IPB board is licenced or not. Since IPB 2.1.x, IPS does not require it's customers to enter any kind of serial or customer ID in the ACP, since they have realised that it's not any use at all. They can change the core files and enter whatever they want in the page. Here is a rather funny edited one: http://www.americasdebate.com/.....ipscheck=1

It's all in the client center. Each client enters the URL of their IPB installation. This IPB installation is legal. Say someone reports that board. If the URL of the board is in their database, nothing happens. If it's not, legal action is {possibly} taken.

For example, I haven't entered the serial key in my ACP, because I am not required to do so by IPS. Thus, my ipscheck returns two zeros in the customer and account id. That doesn't mean my IPB installation is illegal. Wink

I don't know...

Try phpBB

Go to phpBB.com and do a zip download.

Then upload the zip file, and then extract (UnZip) the file.

After that, you'll have your forum set up...

I think you can do the same thing with vB, but I don't know... you might have to pay a lot.

I know you can do it with phpBB, though. is there a zip download for IPB? If there is, upload it to the server.

That's all I know.

I don't know what you do after uploading the zip, and extracting.

I'm going to do that with the hosting, and hope it will work...

I don't know anything about Invision Power Board.

phpBB is the only one I use!

Different people, different projects, different needs. phpBB may be free, but you can't really hold anyone responsible if it stops workign. Laughing
