Dugg. Though I don't agree with this part of the article:

The 1st one is a ridiculous solution, you're not going to update your servers and bandwidth limits as a solution to DDoS attacks. And it will also mean you'd have to increase the capacity of routers etc.
Shutting down the exploited ports is nice if the exploited port isn't used by your services that should remain standing, but usually that isn't the case.
The network cables, the routers/switches etc. in the datacenter (and your server) are still receiving the data, you just block it, meaning it will still make your services slower since the network connection can't handle more.
Next to that, it's not an option to 'prevent' like the little header says, but a solution.
But other than that (and a few other really little mistakes nobody cares about) it's a great and usefull article with lots of information. Good job!

Alright donated to you guys.
And as for your comments, spock, these are actually quite valid ways to handle a DDoS situation.
1. Upgrading the system resources buys you time. This is good for keeping your website up while the attack is still going. I know plenty of people who do this, it certainly is used more than you think. Although I think you are under the impression I mean physically upgrade the system resources- this tactic is more for those who have cheap hosting plans and wish to add more bandwidth to handle the traffic. Places like lunarpages let you go up to a few terabytes in bandwidth without much investment, so this is indeed a good option.
2. You are correct, these are "solutions". There really isn't much to do in preventing a DDoS attack other than having a fine-tuned network and keeping your enemies happy. Because the title suggests that the article will have prevention methods does not mean I will not explore solutions, after all, if I go to learn about DDoS attacks, I want to learn about solutions while I'm there reading about prevention. Articles don't always tend to stay within the scope of the title, and this is usually a good thing for tech articles. Not to mention that I think that the bounds of this article call for solutions where needed, and was a good addition to the article.
