the live cd and full install are on the same disc. I'm not even sure if you could install without going into live cd mode because it just pops up that way, and in the options they are together. _________________ http://www.snapcite.com | http://www.rootsOfevil.com | http://www.MJHQ.com |

I do have a working copy of XP, but linux is usually a lot more stable and a lot faster than Windows. So the plan would be to keep two partitions: one for XP that I can use for school and games and a partition for Linux that I can use for surfing, chatting, watching movies, etc...
Yet I don't want the linux that I use to be extremely harde to use so gOS looks really user-friendly, that's why I'm going to give it a test-run through the live-cd before installing it _________________ .// Proud to be Lifeless for more then 4 years \\. |

I think it is pretty funny some of the features they leave out of different versions of Vista... for example: No Windows Media Center on Basic, Protection from Hardware Failures (its a simple back up type feature! but they can't include it in basic or premium?), Remote Desktop (as I student I have had a lot of need for this feature, but am lacking it), Windows Fax and Scan (my mom uses scanners quite a bit, thank god for third party programs here), Data Protection (prevents "loss or theft" of data if your hardware is stolen, don't know about other people but I have some financial information on my computer... , and you get the point. They do the same thing with Office, unnecessarily crippling the suite so that they can sell some versions more expensively. I started out with the Home and Student version, but it turns out that having One Note is really helpful... I know have the Enterprise edition so that I can use One Note
This is the very reason I have liked Open Source and even Apple. One version has everything.
Unfortunately not enough of the world runs Open Source, and Open Source isn't quite up to handling the files that the proprietary software uses (for example, Gnash failed terribly at playing Flash animations... there wasn't any way for me to open Illustrator files, which is the industry standard, .PSD files were iffy.)
I really like playing with Linux still. I am building another computer from older parts, and just for kicks I am going to initially install Vista Ultimate. After a while I am going to throw a linux distro on that box. _________________ Rashy! |

in the next few months im planning on building a brand new desktop and upgrading 2 others.
1 of the desktops i plan on leaving xp pro
1 i plan on installing a linux distro (probably just regular ubuntu)
the new build i plan on installing vista ultimate 64 bit(if you advise against this please say so) and a linux distro(not sure) and have it dual boot.
this is getting off topic now
but microsoft just like to squeeze every penny out of people. my dad needs windows for work and he just ordered a new laptop, he didn't realize that the home versions were missing so much. he had a relatively small budget so he couldnt really order ultimate on a decent system |
