So what was the metric used to measure the gayness of each car?

Number of users known to be gay researching the car.

Quote:
As a gay guy I don't get what makes these particular set of cars particularly gay? These happen to be the top 10 cars that gay people most often buy, but does that make the car 'gay?'

Not exactly, but there is a connection between this and the look of a car.

I believe the S.I unit of gayness is the 'Elton', apparently the committee meeting in Paris got quite heated, with representatives from the 'Liberace' camp( pun intended) leaving unhappily.

Once upon a time being gay automatically meant having good taste. From the crop of cars chosen I would think that gays have suddenly lost their sense of style and class, the necessary prerequisites for good taste. What boring models they chose; none of them could be considered to be in good taste.

Then again, the poll may have been skewed. If in 'gay' you include not only male homosexuals but also bisexuals, lesbians and the transgendered, which would be the heresy of 'political' correctness, none of whom have ever been accused of excessive good taste (especially lesbians), one could explain the results. It are only homosexual males, the real gay people, who have the "style gene" and so it might be instructive to see what the results would be once one eliminates the non-gay component data. Of course some gay people do not have a fully developed "style gene" which explains people like Elton John and the late Liberace.

Then again, maybe gays really have lost their sense of style and class. What a lost to the human race!

I drive my girlfriends Ford KA around a lot because I don't have enough cash to buy one as yet!

It's Oyster Silver in colour and i'm just over six foot tall. I'm often in the car by myself, crammed into this little space.

Now if I don't look gay driving it then I don't know what gay is Laughing

You're not a convert or an avid watcher of Top Gear then, Gary. You're alright to drive the Ford Ka, it's the StreetKa (hood up or down) that's a no-no.

I was quite surprised at reading the list that pjthefarmer posted on page one of this thread, as I quite like the SAAB 9-3 Aero. My bread is strictly butter side up though, although I've got nothing against those who choose to bat for the other side.

Does anyone else find that very often - really tall men have tiny cars? Or really fat girls have tiny cars? AND if you ever see a car that is "playboy'd" to the max - it's usually a fat munter that's driving it too! aaaarrrgggghhh!!

I know the Ka wasn't yours GaryRobbo, but i see it all the time. It does my head in!!

It really is interesting reading threads like this, not because of what they are about, but because of the reactions people have to them.

For some reason, it is not ok to like a car on the list - ie "the Saab isn't that bad" - just because it may be liked by lots of gay people, does not make liking it bad.

linuxdoctor, i see you are at it again with your reverse stereotypes - I know you post here in the most single minded way possible in order to generate discussion etc, but you and I both know that being gay does not come with a specific set of characteristics (other than, of course, preferring the company of those of the same sex) - saying that gay people have been know for their style is just playing into that stereotype.

For the record, I happen to know a couple of lesbians who do have great style and taste. Straight people too (shock, horror).

Anyway, back to the cars, I personally think they are all boring - there is definately a theme - small runaround types that are more or less affordable, reliable, and economical. The porsche linuxdoctor showed is way way cooler.

Lastly, the comment on the fact that the playboy branding always seems to be on cars owned by hideous women - I was just making this observation the other day - it seems the playboy branding seems to be taken up disproportionately by people who would, in no manner of alternate dimension or reality, ever ever make into the hallowed pages of that great tome. So why is it that people like that do it - is it a form of self-punishment, drawing negative attention to themselves, or is it just pure self-delusion?

bah, it is too difficult a quandry for me to consider.

It seems interesting that this was the list that they came up with. I can see why they might have pulled a few
of the cars, but still I know a lot of people who are gay or lesbian and I don't think they would even look at half of those cars on the list. I would imagine that their list was pulled from some kind of research about statistics when buying a car, but how many people would be filling out information about their sexuality when they are purchasing a car? To me it seems kind of like unrelated to what a person is doing when buying a car. I mean does it really matter what sexual orientation a person is at that point in time and second what is it that make the car itself gay? That fact that the owners are gay? Oh well, it was an interesting read I suppose. Thanks for posting it.
