i think there will be at least 5 more years if not more until blu ray or anything becomes the new standard. I don't even know anyone who even owns a HD Tv, and yet cares how clear the dvd image is. DVD's are pretty clear. I don't have a problem with them. Maybe someday when i get a 90inch tv i might.
The reason i give it at least 5 more years is because HD tv's need to become alot more cheaper before many more people will buy them, and there is no point in getting hd dvd or blu ray for sd tv's.
I do wonder how much clearer that the image could get.
i remember playing Nintendo 64 and such and thinking it couldnt get clearer because it seemed so great and clear at the time. It'd weird how it happens. now of course it looks like crap.
But there has to be a limit. i dunno. _________________ http://www.damnidunno.com |

Computer Game graphics and the picture quality on movies are two completely different topics, but I'll stay away from that
Personally, I never really cared for either format, I had no real need to choose one over the other until about August last year when my family purchased a 50 inch plasma. However, we still haven't chosen one, because we're happy with the image quality now.
We haven't, however, experienced the HD DVD/Blu Ray quality, so maybe that'll change soon
I do agree that it'll be a number of years before Blu Ray becomes the standard for all movie/tv show releases. I'll definitely be waiting a while before purchasing one.
With the latest news on Toshiba and HD DVD, I don't hold out much hope on the format getting anywhere - although I guess technically it's not quite dead yet. |

Can you refer me to some source that verifies that, because I don't believe you.
Besides, VHS is also no longer the 'preferred format', but it is still available and supported by players. Same goes for the CD(-ROM). _________________ Captain Jell-O Buster from the Future

| I pick up a local newspaper today and most major shops here are cutting prices of HD DVDs by 50% and above. |

They make all the stories show how it is a guarantee that HD will go away, and they have been doing this from the start. Tell me one story you have seen when this *war* started that took any positive light towards HD over Blu Ray. You won't be able to there never was one. Same thing happened with VHS and Beta. Beta was actually better than VHS but the media got in bed with VHS and now we have that for Tapes. Personally I like HD over Blu Ray and have never thought of buying a Blu Ray player. I am actually planning on cancelling my Netflix subscription because of their choice to go with Blu Ray only. |
Blu Ray is actually better than HD DVD in several areas. Especially in terms of data density. Blu Ray won't need to be replaced as fast as HD DVD would. _________________

Jacky, care to explain to me then why Toshiba was the one who made the decision to halt production and marketing of all HD DVD disks and players?
I know Blu-Ray was not owned by Sony. It was a collaborative effort, but Sony was the one who was most involved because of the risk factor involved. They would lose their PS3 if blu-ray failed.
But Toshiba was the main company who made the decisions with HD DVD, whether or not there were other companies involved as well. _________________ Come visit Shattered Abstracts! (Photoblog!) |
