Recently my girlfriend got into painting watercolors commercially. There isn't much content yet (like I said she just started), but I decided to make her a website because people have been asking her to do commissions for them (including oil painting portraits and such) and would be nice to give them a website to go to, to check out her work; something more than a deviant-art link.
I tried to go really simplistic, very minimalistic, but also include a touch of color, digital marks (the weird characters //, ^^, %%, etc.), and general "painter" markings. At max, I want to keep the gallery at about 12 pieces total. That way there isn't too much to look at, and also not enough to look at. I also want to add perhaps some of her other art, like oil paintings and such.

If you want to see some of her other, "better" stuff, check out her deviantART: http://du57y.deviantart.com/ _________________ [img:941f13b8ba]http://thegamersjournal.com/newsig.gif[/img:941f13b8ba]

The way the paintings are presented is great. I really like the spatters of paint during the loading phase. The design is plain and simple. There is actually nothing to distract you from the actual paintings.
The only thing that I don't really like is the little bar along the top of the page. The "ASCII art" seems to me a little irrelevant to the content of the site.
The text is also very small and cramped into a corner, in contrast to the rest of the layout which has so much whitespace. _________________ Captain Jell-O Buster from the Future

Hmm, I think I am going to get rid of the "ASCII" characters. It's true they serve no real purpose except for the mixing of two styles, which was my original intent. I wanted to try and mix some little digital marks in contrast to the real painterly ones. Perhaps the design shows this enough anyways though, since it does feature some minimalistic design attributes. The information is supposed to be cramped into the corner. It's supposed to be barely visible in a way. Right now, it's a little too bold for my liking because of the black bar outlines everything has... which I think might also change. Meh, we'll see what happens. _________________ [img:941f13b8ba]http://thegamersjournal.com/newsig.gif[/img:941f13b8ba]

I completely agree. I really like the simplicity of the site. It's clean, simple but attractive.
I also agree with the top bar. I don't like the top bar at all actually. Otherwise, good job. (An you've got a quite talented girlfriend ) _________________ Spock's blog
