I had quite s surprise today when I went to go renew some of my domains. What exactly does private registration mean? Why is it on one of my domains? How can I take it off? My bill came to $18.76 + $17.98 for two domains for two years, but one of the domains has "private registration" and is costing an extra $17.98 for two years. _________________ The Gamer's Journal | Online Portfolio | Half-Life Library | Kokaro |

I suppose it is a privacy protection system for WHOIS entries. Normally your private (or corporate) contact details are used in the registration entry for your domain. These details are public via a WHOIS query.
In order to protect you from spam (both digital and physical) many registrars provide a 'proxy' service for contact details (they provide a legal address, shred incoming mail and forward e-mail).
I am not sure what the pricing scheme is at GoDaddy for such a service, or why you happen to use the service without being aware of it. You might want to consult their support for a good answer regarding that. _________________ If you can read this, my post is on an alternating background. |

Private registration are to hide domain owner contact details from WHOIS database.
Normally private registration on Godaddy are charged around $8.5 per domain taxes might be extra if any. So these charges indicating in your bill are correct.
You should look at help section on Godaddy and read about any product before buying. Also use Godaddy promotional codes for extra savings, subscribe for news letter and get promo codes regularly in ur mail box. |

You guys are paying $17 for whois guard? I paid around $2 for a single domain per year at namecheap.com... not nearly as much as the price for the actual domain. _________________ Rashy! |

GoDaddy has never been my favourite registrar. Their high fees do not surprise me. _________________ If you can read this, my post is on an alternating background. |

Well i'm not questioning the price of them anymore, I was just questioning why the domain was private when I never made it private in the first place, I am also kind of infruiated because I cannot cancel unless I deal with some third-party website, that is currently not working for me. I guess i'll have to ask for support . Lame. _________________ The Gamer's Journal | Online Portfolio | Half-Life Library | Kokaro |

WHOIS guard generally comes free for 1 year with the domain when you purchase it initially, so that will be why you were roped into renewing it with the guard on. |

You are paying $2 for whois guard? I paid around nothing for it on all my domains at 1and1.com!
By the way, it's $8.50 a year in case you misunderstood so it's not that bad a deal. |
