So...

Android? I don't get it.

I'm gonna have to agree with what Nokia, Microsoft, Symbian, and other non-Android backers said, and that is quite frankly that, the only reason this is news at all is because it's Google.

Many of the comments also sum it up in being nothing more than a new OS for carriers to customize and keep devs out of.

It's not like Google can be amazing with everything they do.

They're developing a new thing, and it's bound to be buggy in the first couple of versions. I mean, my PDA got Windows Mobile 5, and I can only compare its stability to that of Windows 3.11. I don't expect the first versions of Android to be any more stable, so I'd avoid. Besides, I like Nokia made phones the best, and when I'm looking for a new one, it'll most likely be a Nokia.

Not amazing? They are introducing a new OS on the market, fully web-based, and I think I am safe when I say that platforms such as Java Micro ect. for mobile devices are going to be completly killed off in this round...
First of all, check this out www.ajaxwindows.com (try the demo). If you think this is pretty neat, hear this. Google has bought off the guys that created this... So imagine the guys that did this working with a Google team...

Look out people... Google is tougher than it seems...

I actually think that google can pretty much be amazing at anything that they do. They can be that good not only because, they have all the money in the world to throw at it, but how they run there business. Google give people during their day at work where they can work on their own projects, while google does have complete acess to this, things like gmail and google docs have come from that. Android may have come from that too. Anything that comes out of google has been a good program, that people utilize almost every day. If google really wants to make a run at the cell phone OS market i am sure they will be a top contender in it.

The only thing I can really say about Android is basically that it seems like everyone wants to bash it for one reason or another... Why not wait and see what they come up with? When has anything Google come up with caused any negative effects in any way?

People are bashing the GUI already even though pretty much everyone knows that this is a very early alpha stage. I'm not saying it's going to be the end all be all of cell phone software, but at least give it a chance when it comes closer to the final stages.

Do you even have a clue about what type of gap you're talking about?
You can't control hardware with some javascript and html directly. A lot of low level code goes into things like that, also your phone still needs to work without web access... The only reason I can see why google bought off the guys is cause they're good with javascript.

At least, we get an other choice for the phone OS.

I believe Google is doing the right thing, it is not a game that's playing with money.

It is the cell phone that I am worry much, to support the OS that bases on web, it must be powerful enough and the battery also has to be very strong.

Let's wait and see.

Well, I think this might be a pretty neat idea, especially since it's open source.

This might make it easier for more developers to work on it, and I think the idea got quite some potential. I don't like everything Google does, but this is definately a great idea.
