Who else picked this up last night or today?

I ran to Walmart at midnight, got the 30th copy, and promptly went home and played a couple campaign missions and some multiplayer battles on Xbox Live with my roommate. I think this is probably the best Halo so far, multiplayer is absolutely fun (as expected).

I haven't played all that much because I had work at 9am this morning, and now I'm at university, but when I get home I'm forgoing studying so I can get some quality time with this game.

I'd love to play with some of y'all, my gamertag is corey f baby. If you wanna get shot up, add me!

I know quite a few people that bought it at the midnight release. My roommate was one of them. He actually beat the entire game before I had time to eat breakfast the next day.

I've played it a bit, and just like the first two Halo's, it's just an average FPS.

I can't think of another FPS that's as fun to play with other people, except for Goldeneye for N64, Counter Strike: Source for PC and Timesplitters 1/2/3 for the PS2/Gamecube. There's just something about Halo, and the fact that everyone plays it, that makes it so fun.

I got it on midnight when it came out, then me and my brother played until 3 and got to mission 6 I believe and the next day we played from 9 PM to 1 AM and finished the game, it was pretty fun but I expected a little better, yesterday I was playing the online and it was pretty fun too except it takes a while to get into a game. Anyways, now we need to finish Gears of War then we're going to beat it on heroic and legendary Silly

Yeah, notice how you just easily named a list for every system (except Perfect Dark is way better than Goldeneye) out there (basically). There's a lot more good games too. Just to name a few (which I may have not played, but have heard is really good) Doom, Quake, BioShock, Fear, Resistance: Fall of Man, Medal of Honor, SOCOM (ok, so SOCOM is third person, but there is a first person view available), etc.

Shooters aren't my cup o' tea, per se, in that I play other types of games a lot more (but I am really looking forward to getting Resistance: Fall of Man, Insomniac Games cannot go wrong), but Halo really isn't that great when compared to these other games. In fact, I've heard people comparing Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal with Halo 2, because they're both shooter-ish (because Ratchet and Clank is slightly more Platform, but less so than the previous two games) and have online play, and quite a bit of people choose Up Your Arsenal over Halo 2. Really, the game can't be that great if Halo fans would choose a platform-shooter over Halo.

** May contain spoilers **

Well I just finished playing through the campaign and the ending was great, I'm glad that they didn't do the cliche game ending like Halo 2 where you just have some overpowered boss which you just have to beat him with a certain trick. I always thought the Halo 1 ending was one of the best endings I've played in the campaign of any game, and I'm glad Halo 3 did something similar, although I wouldn't consider it quite as good as Halos.

Big spoiler (highlight to read):

**
The master chief didn't die and they left the ending quite open to more games with Master Chief and the believe diorama seems to have had pretty much nothing to do with the campaign because he didn't sacrifice himself.

If you watch the part after the credits it shows him left in a piece of the ship that he was on which broke off of the ship that was going back to earth so he is floating through space in it, and he freezes himself and as he is about to be frozen he says "Wake me, when you need me" so this may mean they will make something something else Halo related?

My roommate played it for about - literally - 9 or 10 hours straight after the release. Bit excessive, perhaps, but he's a big Halo and Microsoft fan. Hm...

Seems pretty cool: the graphic style is fun for the most part (a bit immature and over-saturated, at times, but that's an opinion), the gameplay is fun with friends, and the new features add a twist to the old Halo gameplay.

On the other hand, it gets way too much praise and far to much hype. It's an average or above average FPS, not the end-all-be-all of gaming. However, years after launch, it's one of the few games worth owning on the 360, in my opinion, so 360 owners will probably want to pick it up anyway.

So far the online is great, there is always games and quickly (since there is pretty much constantly 200 000 to about 500 000 people online). They really did a great job on integrating it with Xbox LIve. The file share is really cool and could be really useful (you can share your clips, screenshots, game variants, map variants) with anyone.

I actually ended up getting myself a nice new wallpaper for my desktop, I just took a screenshot in the "theater" and just went on bungie.net and downloaded it.

Halo 3 is not an average FPS. An average game wouldn't garner the amazing successes that Halo has achieved.

Halo 3 has so much content as well. Replaying any game and not only seeing what you did but flying around the map to see your opponent's movements and tactics is great.

Forge is a great playground with plenty of potential.

The added meta-game in campaign in addition to 4-player coop adds much much more replayability there. Over and over again will you play, outdoing your friends scores, turning on skulls which make the game harder or entertaining.

Then of course the matchmaking and custom games. And...

Blah blah. Point is that those other shooters don't have this. Oh and Resistance: Fall of Man is an average shooter. Never played the SOCOM but have played the Rainbox Six: Vegas, Call of Duty's, Ghost Recons, and they are pretty damn good. I can really appreciate how I can move from one control scheme to the other. Very Happy

My friend who is a complete gaming freak and will play anything for like the whole day and night was so addicted to this game that he actually played for 12 hours and nearly broke his console. I couldn't really see what the attraction of this game was while watching him play. He kept getting stuck on a mission and just got so determined to get through that he ended up playing non stop for so long. Of course its really unhealthy and I really don't know what he's going to do in the future. Halo 3 is like completely ruining his health but he just need to get to finish the game. I have no idea which level his now on but I really hope that he goes back to normal soon.

Really? Lots of content? They must hide it pretty well. All I've been able to find is multiplayer with the standard modes of gameplay and a compaign that can be made incredibly easy by allowing more than one person to play.

This replay feature you speak of, I haven't seen it, but it sounds pretty lame. I'm playing a video game to play it, not to watch a game that I already played.

It's what happens with fanboys. Can you honostly say that a lot of Final Fantasy games have been that much above average? It's certainly strange that there are so many fans hailing the series as the greatest thing since sliced bread. It's all about the marketing and selection really.

Have you even played the game? There are loads of different game modes, it has the most game modes of any game I have ever played. Not to mention that you can download game modes or maps with modifications.

The replay feature is one of the most creative things done that I have seen in a shooter in a while. Being able to watch replays from any angle or from any view of any player in the game is great and I have yet to meet one person who hasn't liked it. Not to mention you can cut out certain clips that you record and share it with your friends.

I find it especially useful because you never miss those moments when you do something really good or unlikely, for example, today I stuck a grenade with a plasma as it was being thrown at me, so I went to the replay and got a really nice screen shot:

I actually like the replay feature even though I'm not much of a Halo 3 fan. My roommate has taken some really nice-looking screen shots from replays. The thing is that the replays are probably using much higher quality graphic material than used in game. The replay actually just saves the data recording WHAT HAPPENED, so you can move the camera around, etc. etc.

It would make sense, then, that my roommate could, for example, move the camera just below his teammate leaping off a cliff exploding with grenades and get a much more artistic and graphically-refined shot than he could ever see in-game. Kinda nifty. Rather innovative.

Basically, the game is a buyer for '360 owners. However, it gets way too much hype and has far too worshipful of a fan-base for what level of a game it actually is. It's not bad, but it's not as mind-blowingly wonderful as many make it out to be.

I indeed got Halo 3 on launch day, but I actually had ordered it from Dell Canada because they had it for 20 bucks cheaper one day a few weeks ago. I was very surprised when it arrived the morning of launch day. Well done Dell. *claps*

As for the game, it's pretty good. I got it at pretty much the same time that I got the Orange Box for PC so I've been occupied with Team Fortress 2 a lot lately... It's been eating my Halo 3 time. I played quite a few chapters of the campaign, and I played a few hours of multiplayer, but now I'm back to TF2 because it's just so damn addictive.

Anyways I think people are being a little too harsh for the graphics. I'm not sure what people were honestly expecting.. It can't have gears of war quality graphics because it's not that kind of game. To be honest I think this game is far too fast paced and too colourful to be bothered to look anything like gears of war.

I did, however, notice some jaggies around building edges and such, but those just get ignored after playing for a bit. I'll finish the campaign some day. Hopefully soon.
