There's a guy in my college that got it on launch day, and played through the campaign with a friend in about a week - on the big screen tv so everyone could see it (Ironically, the only bit of the whole Halo series I've seen is the last level).
He's since moved it to his room with an internet connection, went out and bought a 26 inch high definition tv, and I've been playing a few games on that (which is awesome).
Now, I've never been much of a Halo fan - given that I've hardly played any of it before. And I'm also not much of an Xbox fan - the controller doesn't quite fit my hand I think. But I enjoy playing this game.
The modes are fairly standard - there's not too much else you can do with it. Playing online is awesome - sure sometimes it takes a while to find a match - but on the whole it's pretty seamless. The huge battles you can play are awesome. And, although I still don't think it plays that huge a part (honestly), the graphics are gorgeous.
Sure, I suck, but it's still heaps of fun. The replay thing is pretty awesome. Being able to go ANYWHERE on the map, freeze time, play in slow-motion, is awesome. I've seen some amazing screenshots, and replaying the exact moment a grenade explodes next to a person, blowing them off the edge is pretty awesome.
And the problem with people hating fanboys, is that they often take it too far, and refuse to see the merits that the games have |

The whole problem with fanboys and people who hate fanboys is a vicious cycle. I mean, there's no way to stop people from becoming fanboys. At one point or another somebody is going to have just too much love for one specific game, company, etc. and it's going to seep out in some online discussion somewhere and turn into a flame war.
The thing with fanboys is that while online they seem like they won't consider any other option but the option that they are fanboying about, deep down inside they are likely to be researching about the competitor (in part to find better arguments against them, but that's besides the point) anyway. I know I did. When I was big on Nintendo I could have been classified as a fanboy, but I still knew what the other consoles had to offer to help my case in debates and such.
The turn to that is that as I learned more and more about the competitor, you start to get a little curious as to whether or not it would be fun to use their products. Long story short, after being against Microsoft (and sony, but I'm still against them) for the entire duration of the Xbox 1's lifespan, when the 360 came out I saw that Microsoft learned their lesson, and I now have a Xbox 360 and no Wii.
Tada! Fanboys can change As for those who hate fanboys, often times they aren't much better at being balanced in debates to begin with... of course there are exceptions. I'll stop rambling off-topic now.

| Quote: | The gameplay of Halo 3 largely builds upon the previous iterations of the franchise. It is a first-person shooter that follows the character Master Chief and his struggle against the Covenant and the Flood. The game's action takes place largely on foot, but also includes segments focused on vehicular combat.
The balance of weapons and objects in the game was adjusted to better adhere to what Bungie Studios Multiplayer Designer Lars Bakken describes as the "Golden Triangle of Halo". These are "weapons, grenades, and melee", all three of which are normally available to a player. Halo 3 also contains the ability to dual-wield, where a player forgoes both grenades and melee attacks in favor of a pair of weapons. All of the weapons available in previous installments of the series, except for the Brute Plasma Rifle, return with minor cosmetic and power alterations. Unlike previous installments, all weapons a player is carrying are visible; weapons not in use are holstered or slung across the player's back. Halo 3 also introduced "support weapons", which are exceptionally large, powerful and cumbersome two-handed weapons such as machine gun turrets and flamethrowers. These weapons drastically limit the player's normal combat options and slow them significantly. In return, they offer greatly increased firepower.[10] In addition to new weapons, Halo 3 added a new class of usable items called Equipment.[11] These items have various effects and functions, ranging from defensive effects (Bubble Shield and Regenerator), or objects which blind or confuse the enemy (Flare[12] and Radar Jammer), to ones which can actually harm and kill (Power Drainer and Tripmine). A player can only carry one of these items at a time. The majority are placed on the battlefield, where they can be destroyed by weapons fire or explosives. Most equipment also has a limited duration after being used.
Halo 3 also features a strong vehicular component, with new vehicles never before seen added in the third installment of the series. Most vehicles can be used by the player, but some are A.I.-controlled. Certain vehicles usable in campaign are not available in multiplayer due to balance concerns. |

Dude you ripped that off from wikipedia!
I enjoyed the original Halo a lot and played it right though twice, but got very bored with Halo 2, since it didn't really build on the original apart from looking much nicer - I think it lost a lot of the atmosphere of the original.
Halo 3 looks like more of the same with prettier graphics, so I haven't jumped at the chance to pick up a 360 to play it. It just doesn't interest me anymore. |

I have been playing the Halo 3 campaign for a while yesterday, but I stopped after a few hours because I felt it was quite boring.
All you get to do is find your way around maps and shoot at aliens. There are a few new weapons and vehicles, but they don't add much. Basically, Halo 2 and 3 are the same game but with a different story line.
I didn't play the multiplayer, though, because there were other games to play. I suppose it could compensate for the rather boring campaign. _________________ Captain Jell-O Buster from the Future

Have you ever played tactical shooters? I mean more of that and less run and gun. _________________ Captain Jell-O Buster from the Future

For example? Pretty much every shooter I play in campaigns just comes down to me shooting the bad guys to go somewhere... _________________ Tutorial Management Script - Version 1.3 Released

Well technically Portal (The Orange Box) is a shooter, but look how it took the genre and completely turned the gameplay into something never seen before in gaming. If you haven't played it, or even heard of it, I would highly recommend buying it or watching some youtube videos. It's probably one of my favourite games that I have played in a long time, simply because of how genius and well executed it is. _________________ Come visit Shattered Abstracts! (Photoblog!) |

The gameplay is very linear. There is only one way to complete a level. There is basically no thinking involved, just aiming and shooting.
Sure, there are a lot of games like this, but I had higher expectations for Halo 3. The game is simply boring now. _________________ Captain Jell-O Buster from the Future

I agree that they pretty much milked the cash cow for all it's worth... I'm glad they are no longer making any more Halo games as a series. I don't care if they make other games (like Halo Wars) since it's still a different game, but unless they rework the entire structure of gameplay, Halo 3 is definitely a good place to end it off.
Regardless, a restructuring of the game would make it something totally different anyway. The whole reason why Halo 1, 2, and 3 are very similar is because the storyline has to be completed, and unless you have incredibly genius developers who can code completely different games in 2-3 years time yet still maintaining the same storyline, you're going to stick with what is tried and true.
They made their money, they're happy, Microsoft let Bungie go, and now Halo is in the past. Tada! *goes to play Orange Box and Zelda* ... I haven't even finished Halo 3 campaign mode yet.. _________________ Come visit Shattered Abstracts! (Photoblog!) |
