I have a Logitech headset microphone, which I have been using for the past few months. Normally, I use it for gaming. However, on two online games I was playing, other players reported that my mic wasn't working. I checked in Windows and sure enough, the mic configuration page didn't pick up any sound from the microphone. It's plugged into the right jack on my laptop and it is turned on. It was working yesterday, so I'm thoroughly confused as to why it stopped today. Any ideas?

It might be broken, but maybe your laptops sound card is doing anything strange? Have you tried reinstalling your sound card drivers already?

If you want to know whether it's caused by (something in) your laptop or the microphone itself, try plugging the microphone in another (maybe a friend's) computer and check if it still works. If it doesn't, your microphone (or the wire from the microphone to the pc) might be broken.

Hope it helps.

Well, it turned out that my computer had decided to uninstall its sound drivers, which disabled the microphone. After restarting my computer after the problem started, I found that I had no sound at all. Reinstalling the drivers seems to have fixed the problem. I just have no clue why the drivers disappeared at all...

I had the same problem, though that wasn't the case. My sound drivers are still in and working for sound, but mics just don't love me. It's odd and happened out of the blue. When I get time, I'll reinstall the driver and see if that works. If it doesn't, what should I try next?

Check if it works in another computer, so you know for sure it's the microphone and not the computer.

If it's the microphone, I'm note sure about what to do, in that case you should find someone who can fix microphones Silly

It works for my brother just fine on his Vista laptop. So, I am not sure. The mix doesn't work for him when he uses his mic port, but when he uses his line in it does. I tried both ways and nothing happened either time.
