A new site I opened up a week ago. It's simply a site that gives out free proxy lists in the most simplest format possible: plain text files.

http://www.textproxylists.com

Anyway, would you be so kind as to give me some feedback? It could be about anything...the proxy servers, the layout, the color scheme, the font, the content...thanks!

The color scheme is a bit too dark and some of the text in the navigation buttons aren't quite readable. The content is also a bit hard to read - lighter purple will do better in this case, I think. It will make your text (both in the content and in the navigation buttons) stand out better, so people will feel more comfortable.

The layout is simple but acceptable. It certainly fits to the name of the site 'Text Proxy Lists' since there's no image there, as far as I can see it Silly I personally like simplicity, so I fancy the design. However, the colors - as I stated before - are too dark so I have trouble reading some text.

Just my 2 cents.
And good luck with your site!

I believe you should create some more contrast in the colors to make everything more readable. For example: the background color can be lightened a bit, and the navigation button text can be a bit lighter as well (or the buttons darker).

I like the simplicity going on here. I am guessing this is all CSS, which is cool. I think you also need a main logo, or some header text atleast. Then you will be ready to go.

It looks like a powerpoint presentation turned into a site. The while site looks the same, while the menu and the content should at least be different. If not the menu won't look appealing enough to further look through.

Your icon is nice though. Maybe you could use it as a site logo. (Enlarge it and stuff) or as menu bullets.

That's obviously the point Silly. There's a difference between simple design and bad design that is simple from lack of skill.

I think if you just change the text colour a bit brighter, then it will be fine! Nothing else wrong with it Smile

Nice and simple design which I like. Background color is fine and I have no problems reading the content its just when reading statistics I get lost, font color should be a bit brighter. Everything else looks great. Wink

I like the idea, and it is great that someone is giving out proxies this way, God knows I hate copying them myself.

I suggest you work on the alignment of the site some. The colors are ok, but they could be done better. You might not want to have it so dark. Though it works.

The site runs great though. The one question I would have is content. Do the lists update, and get tested, or is it just a "Here you go, wing it." thing? Either way it is pretty nice, and I suggest you work on the alignment of things so it doesn't look so off whack.

Thanks for all the comments. I'll take into consideration, everything that has been said so far.

So...I'll be lightening up the color scheme...and...that's it?

@Moose: THe site updates every 6 hours (by a cron job). The proxies are not checked beforehand (that's why I made available a crude proxy checker php script). And what do you mean by it's not aligned correctly?

An example of the alignment I am talking about would be the little header thing that says textproxylists.com. The way it sticks out to the right of the main theme kinda makes it look "broken". I feel that should be tucked up under the main style image so it doesn't look so out of place. Also, for the copyright box, I think that should be to the right so that is doesn't land under the nav bar. It will make it look a little more clean.

I like the design except for the contrast in the menu.
the menu text would be better if it was a litter brighter.
And it would also be better if the hover effect of the links was in another light color, instead of the dark you're using now.

I also don't like that I have to push the back-button to get on the homepage.
even ie uses tabbed-browsing now, so you can open the links in a new page. Twisted Evil

I do agree the colors are too dark. Especially the background colors in the menu. Try lighter colors for your background.

I really like the content though. It’s really informative. I’m sure both your visitors and search engines will love it Very Happy

Well, I like the design, it's organized and to the point with a vibe of professionalism. The only critique I have is the hover effect on the menu, I don't like the way it jumps around, it's unsettling.

Another comment, your ads are not located in a good place for money making. You'll do much better to incorporate them into the header, so that they're seen. Or if you don't want them to bee too obtrusive, you could put them in the middle of the sidebar, but the bottom is not a good idea.

I like the design, I think it's very nice, the contrast could use some work and other than that, I cannot find anything to 'complain' about ;P

Thanks for all the feedback. Sorry, I *STILL* haven't changed the text contrast on the sidebars...

Anyway, here's my response to a few individual replies:
@M0ose: The alignment there was on purpose. It just felt more stylish to me like that.

@cyberpatje: Opening all the files in a new window seems annoying to me...I think I'll let it stay the way it is for now.

@marinaroz: Regarding the Yahoo Publisher advertisements on the sidebar -- I've already been making $200-300 USD a month through my websites for almost a year now...and I don't think I should force it if I don't have to. I mean, two to three hundred dollars is more than enough to pay for my domains and such
