Interestingly, one of the design goals of Fedora 11 (scheduled release May 26, 2009) is to have a 20 second boot time (that is to say from BIOS transfer to bootstrap code to login screen). As of Jan 28, that goal was 10% complete.

From my understanding, using the ext4 file system will help those boot times significantly. I think several other distros were shooting for sub 30-second boot times as well.

Doesn't your boot time depend on your hardware? So do they measure an official boot time on "recommended specs" or something?
