I bought a Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 5000 the other day and It came with the latest intellipoint software. It seems to work fine, but it screws up the games I play.

It seems that the intellipoint software still overrides any ingame defined keys to the mouse. such as using the wheel to scroll weapons in a game, or the wheel button to select a weapon.

When I try to do this in the game it brings up my desktop with that flip screen stuff that comes with the intellimouse software, as the same with the other buttons.

I don't want to uninstall the software because without it the scrolling on the mouse is way too fast and the basic mouse settings in the control panel to not resolve it.

It seems that you must have an option for each button selected in the intellipoint software, and you can't choose disable or anything because that'll simply disable the button completely.

is there anyway to get around this? I would like to use this mouse, and play my games at the same time.

I can't seem to find a "disable special key settings" box or anywhere to check, and it seems kinda lame that MS wouldn't just allow us to disable those special settings and just use the default plug n play windows settings and such. Or maybe there is a way to do that without removing the software?

thanks

I have a similar problem with a Logitech mouse, but its settings give an option to set to generic key

Does yous have that sort of setting?

I haven't found anything like that yet.

There is only a disable option in the down down menu options, but it actually disables the key, as in it doesn't work at all, even in the game. So thats lame.

There is also a feature for "program specific settings", and i can't even use that for my problem because it has a list of defined options as the main settings to so it doesn't help.

i was finally able to play my game for a little bit by going to the task manager and just ending the program task for ipoint. It let me use the mouse just fine, but the mouse smoothing was gone and it was kinda laggy, which sucked, but i was able to play Silly

I suppose this mouse and keyboard was made more for image production and other office needs rather than games, so thats why they didn't make such features that i need very obvious.
