I made a dedicated thread to the first story here, but i figured most of these are too funny not to share. I'm gonna post the best ones i get in here rather than start new threads all the time.
these from a newsletter, so i can't quote the source, but hopefully a search on google will yeild supporting articles.

Ig-Nobel peace prizes
this stuff is funny . . . .
| Quote: | HEALTH professionals were
among scientists honoured this
week in the tongue-in-cheek ‘Ig’
Nobel Awards, which aim to
highlight “obscure and often
bizarre research”.
Winners included the
scientists who discovered that
Viagra helped hamsters deal
with jet lag, as well as a joint
British-US team which produced
a report on the abdominal
effects of sword-swallowing.
The Ig Nobel Peace Prize was
awarded to the US Air Force
researchers who worked on the
so-called ‘Gay Bomb’ - a
chemical weapon said to make
enemy soldiers fancy each other. |
I wonder if this means there is a real military application for gay-dar

30 years for pinching a do-nut - a little bit extreme
| Quote: | SHOPLIFTERS should be
punished, but this is probably a
bit extreme.
A US man is facing up to 30
years in prison after he was
charged with theft of a doughnut.
41-year-old Scott Masters
allegedly slipped the snack into
his jumper before pushing away
a female shop assistant as he
fled the scene.
Officials say the push is being
treated as assault, which makes
the shoplifting charge into a
more serious strong-armed
robbery allegation which carries
penalties of up to 15 years.
However because Masters
already has a criminal record
prosecutors can push to double
the sentence to 30 years. |

Last one for now - this one is a bit harsh, I think what these people are doing is really low.
| Quote: | Pharmacy scam warning
PHARMACISTS are today being
warned about the so-called
“breast pump scam” in which a
couple attempt to exploit the
sympathy of pharmacy staff to
get a refund on a breast pump.
At least five Sydney pharmacies
have been targeted by the
scamsters, who allegedly say they
want their money back because
the woman has had a miscarriage
or stillbirth and has no need for
the device.
Today’s Daily Telegraph also
reports that some variations of
the scam have appeared, with
phone calls from the fraudsters
posing as community workers
asking about pump refunds on
behalf of their so-called clients.
They claim to have lost the
receipts for the devices, but
there’s suspicions the pumps have
been stolen in the first place. |
People who do that kind of thing deserve everything the get when busted. As a parent, I found this particularly low. _________________ For Metal and Rock interviews and reviews, go to www.heavymetalnation.com - You can Contribute too if you want!

here are some more of these things . . .
Lost you tooth brush - look in your nose!
| Quote: | A WOMAN in India is today
feeling very relieved after
doctors removed an 8cm-long
piece of her toothbrush from
her nose.
The Mumbai Mirror reported
that the woman went to
hospital two months ago
suffering severe pain, with the
broken toothbrush showing up
embedded inside her nostril
during a CT scan.
“I was brushing my teeth, my
husband accidentally pushed me
and the toothbrush broke.
“I was left holding the lower
portion of the brush but
couldn’t locate the rest of it,”
the woman explained. |

So drunk, you'll drink anything, but blood?
| Quote: | NO, he’s not a vampire - just
very very thirsty.
A Hong Kong man has been
given a two month prison
sentence after he drank two
vials of blood in a hospital
emergency room.
29-year-old Li Man-yiu said he
visited the hospital in Sep for
treatment for a injured hotel
after a drinking binge.
Security cameras showed Li
“walk up to the laboratory
counter, take three tubes
containing blood samples, drink
the contents of two and then
dump the vials in the lift lobby”
according to the South China
Morning Post.
The report said that when he
realised the vials contained
blood he rushed to vomit in the
toilets. |
ps I don't know what he injured, but i am sure it's not his hotel . . . _________________ For Metal and Rock interviews and reviews, go to www.heavymetalnation.com - You can Contribute too if you want!

Oh wow. She lost the upper part of the toothbrush, the one with the hairs? And it went up her nose without her ever noticing until the pains came? Just wow. I wonder how big her nose is to miss such a thing. I'd say she's real lucky that the brush hadn't reached and damaged her brain. _________________ Tarakana NET |

It would take a lot to reach the brain, but yeah, it is amazing she did not notice, or at least get an infection . . . perhaps the antibacterial chemicals in the toothpaste prevented that. _________________ For Metal and Rock interviews and reviews, go to www.heavymetalnation.com - You can Contribute too if you want!

damn, no ones replying to this thread, I thought people would find these interesting.
Here's one that might get some discussion:
| Quote: | An Australian man who is sick
of losing his car keys is set to
become the first person in the
world to be microchipped.
Patrick Franklin is a member
of a car-sharing service called
Go Get, and will use the
implanted radio identification
chip to activate vehicles owned
by the group.
Under the current system
members book a car online then
pick up a key from a special box
attached to a telegraph pole.
However after Mr Franklin has
the chip inserted into his arm
he’ll “simply swipe a finger or
an arm over the car to unlock it
and drive off,” according to a
Sydney Morning Herald report. |
Now, firstly, this is a flawed story, because I have seen a documentary with a scientist who got microchipped, then installed receivers throughout his lab. When he walked into the foyer, his lab powered up and all his copmuters and machines turned on, etc. His house's lights were attuned to turn on when he entered a room, etc.
I personally would love to have something like this done, but there would be drawbacks.
For instance, say you had the lights in your house set up to turn on for you - what if you wanted the room to stay dark?
Anyway, interesting idea. _________________ For Metal and Rock interviews and reviews, go to www.heavymetalnation.com - You can Contribute too if you want!

About the gaydar ..... here's a short film that you might find amusing on that subject.
Part1
Part2
Download each part and join them together with whatever tool you use (on Linux and other Unix clones use 'cat' and on Windows HJSplit and the like works). _________________ Misanthrope: someone who realizes that humans really are as stupid as they appear.
