I guess you guys here heard of this document sharing application called Scribd, it can embed any type of documents ranging from PDFs to PowerPoint to Word documents. Recently, they updated their embeddable document reader to iPaper. So what's the buzz about this upgraded version of iPaper?
Its has got ability to zoom pages, view thumbnail previews, and actually scroll the content with your mouse's scrollwheel (which doesn't work for some other products e.g. PdfMeNot). Its able to search, and provides simple links on their site page to download and save the original version on your desktop as either a PDF, plain text document, or even synthesized MP3 recording of the document. Cool huh ?
Check out features of the upgraded iPaper at http://www.scribd.com/ipaper. |

Sounds fun. I wonder about the security, though. They say: | Quote: | | Because it is web-based (and not a file), you can't download, upload, or email an iPaper document. |
I wonder whether that is true. Flash embedded videos can be extracted, why wouldn't this be true for Flash embedded documents?
Also the comparison chart with PDF is a bit odd. Creating a PDF is also free and if people use an alternative viewer the installation isn't that big.
Not trying to be a sceptic here, though. The other features sound promising. I wonder when I will find a use for it. _________________ Captain Jell-O Buster from the Future

| I can't stand it. Never heard of iPaper but I take it is very similar to FlashPaper which is starting to pop up in a number of places. It limits browsing area, the maximise is only to full screen and is buggy and the return to tiny view is triggered as easily as pressing a multimedia key. Navigation and scrolling is non-standard but I suppose you get used to it. However, inline documents that are not resource intensive is something I like so if iPaper has a better implementation than Adobe's version, I'll support them. |

I guess it's a nice addition to make pdf's available to view online. (Still not everyone has a pdf reader installed, and for more technically inclined people, this seems easier) However, just making pdf's available is still better, since the quality of iPaper is quite low, and you can't read the document offline with iPaper.
I've got to say I'm impressed with the functionality and speed of iPaper, and the ability to monetize documents by adding adSense ads seems great. _________________ My new site
