Hey guys, I noticed the "Our Oratory" and I basically just wanted ya'll to know I'm a Christian.

Last September, on the 10th, my girlfriend finally convinced me to go to church for the first time. She has been going to church for 5-6 years or so. It was my 16th birthday. It took me a while to actually accept Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior... Today, I'm obviously not what someone else would consider a "hardcore" Christian Silly I sin, I'm not able to get myself to read the bible all the time, etc.. I'm still kind of an average teenager-ish. I don't really know what to say when talking about religion. I usually just keep my mouth shut.

I don't know a whole lot yet, but I'm learning. I've gone to church nearly every sunday since my birthday; I've just missed one or two days because of other thigns going on. My youth group just finished up it's meetings for this year, and I they'll start again next fall.

It's hard to balance out all this science vs. religion stuff Confused

I don't really have much to say, lol. I just wanted to get that out because it's hard to find people to talk to about that stuff at school and stuff. One time at school I had my keys out, and one of he key chain thingies dangling around was a cross, and someone I know seemed a little freaked out by it and asked me if I was really religious... I just said no =/... But then again, another person I know, who I never thought would be a Christian, saw it and that's when we found out we were both Christians.

Yeah, kinda random topic, but I don't know if anyone here has noticed that I'm a Christian.

Nope I havent Noticed you was christan.
to me i just dont have any faith.
the thing with faith and sicene is its going to battle out till someone finds some "hardcore" evdince that there is a resaon for the start of the world.
the reason i dont belive is because look at the wars that get started over faith. i dont think no one has true faith i think every one has a dark side.

I see what you mean, and I must say that I can still agree with you to an extent... I just hate it when people are anti-Christian and stuff though (I'm not saying you are).

I hate it when anybody is anti-[insert religion here]. I think it is stupid to hate or dislike a religion. Live and let be, I say. If they want to practice Hindu, Buddhist, Islam, Taoism, whatever else, let them! Its not like it is hurting you (unless they launch some kind of holy war against you...)

I suppose the only exception to this rule is the Church of Scientology... but then they aren't really a religion. Corporate cult would be a better description for them.

Anyways, one of my friends has tried getting me back to church and stuff. She drugged me to youth group meetings once or twice, then it started being the other way around (I had to force her to go). Then they changed the pastor guy... and it was impossible for me to get her to go, and since I didn't really know any one else there I just didn't really have the desire to go and yeah... that kind of fell apart.

"The only" exception? What about 'religions' like Aum Shinrikyo, Heaven's Gate, and Roch Theriault's cult?

For the OP, I don't really know why you'd care if anybody had noticed that you're a Christian. I would argue that religion is ideally a personal thing.

Yeah after starting at the local church youth group I find it hard to adhere to Christianity and still keep a scientific view of the world. I mean I understand that science explains how and religion explains why but that means not taking the bible too literally but many people do and it gets quite hard to convince them otherwise.

I really like youth group though because of the activities and the people are really nice. I just feel uncomfortable some times when people say that Christianity is better than other religions because its not. I also get a bit tense when people start talking about how its really important to convert other people to the faith because they need to be able to go to heaven and if you're not a Christian it doesn't matter how good you are you will either got to purgatory (catholic) or to hell (other sects).

There is a stage that the recently converted go through, where they are "in love" with their new religion. And just as you'd want to talk about the person you love to everyone, the recently converted want to talk about their faith. It's rather sweet.

But, like Duck, I believe that religion is a personal thing. Wellingtonboots, I find it's best not to listen to other people. Just find your own spiritual path in your own time.

Ah, the age old question. Science has basically disproved The Bible time and again. Much of The Old Testament was written, and subsequently translated so many times it has become nothing short of a fairy tale. We all know that The Dinosaur era was some sixty million years ago, because science has proved this, however The Bible refuses to believe anything actually happed prior to Adam and Eve. That theory can further be blown out of the water by the simple fact that they supposedly had two children, therefore the only four peolple on the planet, yet one of the children vanishes to a different land and marries someone.

While I profess to know little about religion, there are some parts within it's structure that utterly defy belief.

Hmm, *thinks for a long moment* I'm drawing a blank here. This is what I was talking about before. I can't have a conversation about this stuff because I just don't know what to say... Confused

I've always believed in the science stuff, and now religion is getting mixed into my thoughts. I never know what to think anymore. I think I still believe in the science stuff though.

I never noticed that you were a christian, but well, things like that only show if you keep writing about them...

Anyway, I think that as long as you're happy with your religion, that's the important thing.

You sound a bit confused about the whole thing, though. If you have questions, you'll be better asking someone who can give you some answers rather than believing blindly or being constantly confused about your faith.
