|
|
I picked up a Dell lattitude x300 laptop less then a year ago and I have already gone through two power supplies bought off ebay with the second one's cord starting to spark on me at 2 in the morning. Does anyone know where I could get a power supply for this laptop with better build quality then those cheap ones on ebay or does anyone have an idea of why these cheap ones break so easily? _________________ http://mydorksite.com |

I don't usually buy third party products, mainly for these kinds of reasons, but I'd say if you go onto a site like www.TigerDirect.com, you should be able to find plenty of universal power supplies that are designed for your laptop's power needs.
Why can't you just get a replacement from Dell? _________________ Come visit Shattered Abstracts! (Photoblog!) |

Why can't you just get a replacement from Dell? | OEMs usually charge a hefty price compared to 3rd-parties.
It's why enthusiast do not max out the RAM available when customising a laptop, rather, they choose the lowest configuration they can find then do after-market upgrades. _________________

Well I understand that point, because I did the same thing when I got my laptop.
But just because I didn't buy RAM from Apple doesn't mean when I buy it from Corsair or Crucial it's going to be a cheap knockoff. The RAM I'd be buying would probably be what Apple uses for their own products anyway.
But for other things I'm much more wary of third party solutions unless they are from pretty well known and respected brands. In the world of RAM, you know Corsair is a good brand. In the world of power supplies.... I can't even name one.
But that's just me, and I know that I have a weird paranoia because I don't usually even like buying used items. _________________ Come visit Shattered Abstracts! (Photoblog!) |

Ask that at NotebookReview.com and they will share the same opinion. _________________

I agree, I think that's the point I was trying to make. For RAM, even though the OEM uses the same brand/model, if you buy from the vendor directly it will be cheaper. But you know you're still going to get a quality product in this particular case.
With power supplies, I don't know if it works that way since I don't know who the vendors of the supplies are for the OEMs in that case. _________________ Come visit Shattered Abstracts! (Photoblog!) |
