I'm a huge supporter of open source software, but I haven't found anything quite as good as Kayako.

Something like OsTicket seems good enough to me Silly

I've used osTicket and Support-Logic. osTicket 1 was not up to what we need here to handle all the different types of tickets and issues. It is still good software though and I will definitely be giving osTicket 2 a very thorough look when it is finished.

Support-Logic was very useful and was a great script. Its website is now owned by a different group and the software doesn't seem to be supported anymore. It had a few user interface flaws, but overall was one of the better open source helpdesk systems.

Kayako's eSupport is much like cPanel. It is very good software that meets our needs without costing us too much for its specific functionality.

Kayako lets me spend more time fixing issues and providing support than working with the support desk. That is very important to me.

It's an unnoficial wiki, I believe the domain is owned by another member, though I'm not quite sure who it is Silly

I don't know who is... whois information is protected. The domain expires on 18 Feb 2008 so, we will have lifelesswiki for 1 year Laughing

The Lifelesswiki.com domain is sponsored by me, but is run by Ithilion.

At $8.88 per year I believe the lifelesswiki domain is a good investment and isn't on the chopping block. Smile

You want /support/ and not support.lifelesspeople.com ? Maybe we could run a donation service on support.lifelesspeople.com for all those lifelesspeople out there that need our support. We could donate VSP to them. har har

Technically you still could get the domain back from the domain taster. I figure lifelesspeople has been a known brand for sometime now and you could push for the trademark brand rule that says they have to turn it over to you free of charge. This way you get it free for another year. Wink

.

I did not lose the domain and I can recover it if I want to. This is mostly a cost saving measure.

Consider the following:

Case1: lifelessupport.com setup

Domain: lifelesssupport.com - $8.88
Private registration for lifelesssupport.com - $1.75
Domain: lifelessupport.com - $8.88
Private registration for lifelessupport.com - $1.75
SSL for lifelesssupport.com - $15.95
Domain: lifelesspeople.com - $8.88
Private registration for lifelesspeople.com - $1.75
SSL for lifelesspeople.com - $15.95

Total: $64.19

Case2: /support/ setup

Domain: lifelesspeople.com: $8.88
Private registration for lifelesspeople.com: $1.75
SSL for lifelesspeople.com: $15.95

Total: $26.58

Case3: support.lifelesspeople.com setup

Domain: lifelesspeople.com: $8.88
Private registration for lifelesspeople.com: $1.75
SSL for lifelesspeople.com: $15.95
SSL for support.lifelesspeople.com: $15.95

Total: $42.95

On top of these costs the license for the helpdesk software that powers the helpdesk is $170 per year. I've been able to reduce the costs in addition to the helpdesk software by $35.61 which adds to the L2P warchest. Smile

Over the last few months I have been working to reduce overall costs to make L2P more efficient and to be able to make a blitz to bring the number of accounts back up.

Note: Due to this and other changes made since the lifelesssupport.com expired I have been able to make PBPP a bit easier to get. You should have started to notice this change as of about 12 - 24 hours ago.

But you shouldn't need to pay any additional cost other than the domain fees, if you just redirect the domain to /support/, right?
