Well seeing as there seems to be a fair few threads around on some of the top(ish) England clubs I thought that Liverpool FC should be included in this section.
Where do I start?
I supposed I should start with tonights game at Anfield.
A good start with the 2-1 and it's certainly all to play for in Cyprus (if that eventually gets confirmed as the place to play). They certainly didn't give us too much of an easy ride.
Bellamy was making some fantastic runs so he seems like he was worth the money but I won't judge just yet because it's only been a few games. A good goal as well tonight.
Pennant seemed to be doing an alright job down the right hand side, he was getting those crosses in tonight, not perfect but there's always room for improvement.
And although he played very little tonight, Gonzalez looked like he could threaten some of the Premiership defenses. Good finish for his goal as well and what a great ball from Alonso as well.
Bit disappointed actually that Bellamy and Crouch weren't paired up, would have liked to have seen how they would have got on.
I juts hope we are all properly set for the Community Shield against Chelsea. |

Well, although I remember watching Liverpool in the 70's and 80's as a kid and often wondering to myself how I came to support Newcastle United, they're probably my second team I suppose. I remember watching the likes of Keegan and Toshack in the 70's and their complete dominance of the European cup in the 80's and remember playing football at school wearing a Liverpool kit, although I can't remember whether it was mine or borrowed!
Either way, I still like to watch them but I'm really not sure about Craig Bellamy. Much has been said about his attitude and his behaviour off the pitch and I've seen at first hand what he's like week in, week out but you just have to look at the comments made by fans of the teams he's left. Ask any Norwich, Coventry or Newcastle fan and I'd say over 90% will say they're glad he's gone. I've not heard much comment from Blackburn fans - predominantly because there aren't many about - but I can't see that the Welsh leopard will have changed his spots. He just thinks he's bigger than any club he plays for and it wouldn't surprise me to see him strutting around like he owns Anfield and getting up other players' noses. I might be wrong but his track record isn't the best in the world!!
What is the feeling amongst Liverpool fans as regards where they'll finish the season? I think that they're a nailed-on top four side but can they finish second? I think Chelsea are going to be strong again this season but hopefully they'll be given a run for their (vast quantities of) money. _________________ [img:72f68c01cd]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v225/YorkshireMag/newcastle_fc_fan.gif[/img:72f68c01cd] |

I think we should finish in the top three to be honest.
I personally would like us to finish closer to Chelsea this year and with the squad we have at this precise moment, I don't see any real reason why we can't give them a good fight.
As for Bellamy, I personally really do hope that he doesn't think he is bigger than the club he is currently playing for. I feel we have a brilliant team-spirit and I would curse any player who would ruin that.
As it stands, he is fitting in ok, and he and Gerrard seem to look fairly decent together. All we can do is watch. |

To be fair, Liverpool are a re-emerging force. They dominated English and European football through the back end of the seventies up until the mid-eighties, and the trophy room is immense. The ban of English clubs set back Liverpool several years, as with all The English Teams, but with that recent Champions League victory, rest assured that they are back..... Although to raise a smile, it has been some sixteen years since they last lifted the domestic crown.... Which they call barren. I simply laugh in the face of Tattenham, who have never seen their team lift the title on colour television
Meantime, since this thread has been created, perhaps we can be enlightened as to this seasons signings, and your thoughts for the months ahead... _________________ It feels so empty without a signature, so here is some mindless gabble to occupy the space |

| Well LovejoyLass, a 2-1 win with 2 great goals from Risse and Crouch to win against Chelsea in yesterday's Community Shield is a great pre-season confidence boost and an indication that it is not the only silverware we'll be getting this season. |

I was very pleased to say the least to see Chelsea start their season with a loss! I must admit, I don't think they'll lose too many more but it's got to be one heck of a psychological boost for the Reds and a great starting point for the upcoming season. I think that they played fairly well yesterday but the game was a typical first-day-at-school affair with neither side looking particularly dominant. For all of their second half possesion, Chelsea couldn't find their way past Liverpool and I think that 2-1 was probably a fair result.
As far as the petulant little Welshman in concerned, yes he played well and set up what was the winning goal (Crouch? With a header? Surely not!!) but he really got my back up when he was being interviewed at the end of the game. The interviewer said something like "Well, it would seem that people shouldn't have worried about Rafa Benitez leaving certain players out of the starting line-up" and so Bellamy says "Yeah, I had a word with the gaffer..." and goes on about HIMSELF!! Had he forgotten that Steven Gerrard - who has more talent in his little toe that the Welsh self-admirer - didn't start and was probably more in the forefront of people's minds?!
It's things like that which really make me think that he's going to do the same at Liverpool as he's done everywhere else and get up the other players' noses. Sorry to bleat on about him but he's one of those type of people who just make me so mad!! _________________ [img:72f68c01cd]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v225/YorkshireMag/newcastle_fc_fan.gif[/img:72f68c01cd] |

I thought it was a deserved win for Liverpool, over the current English Champions, Chelsea, who seem set to use the excuse about not having enough time for preparation..... Which is utter rubbish to me. All the teams knew when the fixtures were, so if they have not prepared thoroughly, then no-one is to blame, but themselves. Take nothing away from the Liverpool victory, and the first piece of silverware of a new season.
I just hope that the victory is the start of the demise of the moneymen from South West London.
Congratulations, Liverpool. _________________ It feels so empty without a signature, so here is some mindless gabble to occupy the space |

Signings
Craig Bellamy - signed from Blackburn Rovers for I believe £6million. Not a bad little striker and he seems so far to be fitting in nicely.
Fabio Aurelio - Brazilian left back (who can play left wing) signed a four year contract with us in July. Not seen much of him yet but form the Community Shield game didn't seem too bad a player.
Jermaine Pennant - Signed from Birmingham City. Right winger. SE13 may have a comment on this lad as he was contracted to Arsenal at one point.
Gabriel Paletta - Argentine centre back, only 20 and would in my opinion be used instead of Hyypia at different points in the game.
Mark Gonzalez - we actually brought him last year but because of problems with his work permit we had to ship him out on loan to Albacete. He is very pacy and I rate him to be a big part of our season. He's a great wing man and he should be a regular. I reckon he can scare a few wing backs.
The community sheild win against Chelsea has set us off to a good start. Was really (apart from the Champions league qualifier) our first competitive game (against a Premiership side) and I was happy with the players and the result.
Was a bit unsure to begin with when the starting line up was introduced but when out subs warmed up, Gerrard, Alonso and Bellamy came on and gave us that little extra which eventually one us the game.
As for what I am looking for this season, at least to get closer to Chelsea/United/Arsenal (if they can keep up). Pushing most definitely for a top three finish but I will personally be more happy with a 1st or 2nd finish. Who knows? We have a big squad, a confidence throughout the team and a season to look forward to i think. |

Now then.... Craig Bellamy, the man they said would never fit in a Liverpool side... Well look what he went and did at the weekend, ladies and gents!
The cross for Peter Crouch's winning goal was as good as they get, pinpoint and exactly where every great header of the ball wants it, and where every defender dreads it!
Good signing for me..... _________________ It feels so empty without a signature, so here is some mindless gabble to occupy the space |

Good signing in my opinion also.
He makes some fantastic runs and gives us another option. And he also runs wide (as he did in the CS) and crosses well as well as you have clearly pointed out for the Crouch goal.
Jamie Redknapp said before the game
'I truly believe that Liverpool fan's are going to love Craig Bellamy'
And I thought to myself, nah, I like him, I think he's truly going to do good at this club but I didn't believe most Liverpool fan's would see it like that.
I now would probably turn round to that comment and think otherwise. I think he is going to fit in here (as long as he keeps his feet on the ground) should do a decent job for us. |

I stand to be made a fool of but let's see how he's regarded by Liverpool fans by the end of the season. As I've said, he played well on Sunday but one good game doesn't make a career and the majority of fans of every club he's played for so far have been glad to see the back of him.
I'm not sure where Rafa is going to play him but don't be surprised if he has any mysterious injuries when he's asked to play on the right side of midfield! If he's to be played up front, his record at Newcastle was 28 goals in 93 appearances over three and a half seasons, which is a ratio of less than one goal per three games. A decent centre forward should be getting at least 20 goals in a season - or one every other game.
I may sound bitter and twisted but when a player leaves and then proceeds to slag off your club, its fans and the town, it leaves a bad taste in the mouth. I hope I'm wrong because I like Liverpool but he's not got the best track record in the world! _________________ [img:72f68c01cd]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v225/YorkshireMag/newcastle_fc_fan.gif[/img:72f68c01cd] |

I still think that Rafael Benitez has made an excellant purchase in Craig Bellamy. It is all very well being asked to play out of position, but to be forced to do so will have an obvious detremental affect to the player, and a knock-on to the team.
Had he have been at Newcastle United under Glenn Roeder, I think you might have seen a different player, however the move to Liverpool will almost certainly allow him to play the role he loves, although not guarenteed to start every game.... Squad rotation will see to that, for sure. _________________ It feels so empty without a signature, so here is some mindless gabble to occupy the space |

...so long as his vast ego can stomach the squad rotation system. A leopard doesn't change his spots and there's a potential there for him chucking a huge strop if he finds himself on the bench more than he sees necessary. He has done it at every club he's played for and, although he'll probably toe the line for a while, he's more than capable of spitting his dummy out when he thinks he's behaved long enough.
I suppose we'll just have to agree to disagree about Craig Bellamy but I've seen him week in, week out and know what he's capable of. I sincerely hope I'm wrong for Liverpool's sake.
EDIT: It's just been announced this morning that Dutch international Dirk Kuyt has merely to undergo a medical at Anfield to complete his move to Liverpool. Whilst this is a disappointment to Toon fans (Newcastle United were also linked with the search for his services), it's not really a surprise.
Another forward player? Bellamy won't be pleased! _________________ [img:72f68c01cd]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v225/YorkshireMag/newcastle_fc_fan.gif[/img:72f68c01cd] |

Well if todays performance on the first day of the new Premiership season is anything ot go by, a certain Jose Moronio will be flapping his mouth and saying that Liverpool are never going to challenge the 'mighty Chelski', ignoring the book makers all putting Liverpools odd of winning the Premiership at the third highest odds.
Liverpool's opening game against Sheffield United was a disappointing match to say the least, going one-nil down just after the start of the second half to a, to be honest, a great header from rob Hulce and only managing to equalise from a dodgy penalty called, spot kick from Robbie Fowler, they did not look the same team who had been dominant and beat the current Premiership title holders Chelsea in last weekends Charity Shield.
I'm sure this is only a small hic-cup in what is bound to be a great season for Liverpool and their fans, even though they did snatch Dirk Kuyt right from under Newcastle United's nose _________________ [img:def1252c58]http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y110/shearer9/shearersshirtsig.jpg[/img:def1252c58] |
