Welcome to the first edition of the LLP Notes.
This is something like a letter to the editor reply topic where I answer criticisms and give more information about some of the happenings around the community and service.
I would like to start off by responding to several comments on Freewebspace.net made by robert allen, robertz, rallen, or any other nickname he would like to go by. Below is a quoted example of one of these comments:

This looks dodgey. Last time i checked the owner of lifelesspeople.com had control of this domain, and lifelesspeople.com sucks.

Someone said that no news is good news. That may be true for some but, in the world of marketing any buzz is good buzz when it gets people to visit your service or investigate your product further even if someone is talking badly about your product or service. In his attempts to drive people away from our services he is actually advertising our services in the best way possible. Lets all thank robert allen for his efforts next time we see him.

Next I would like to talk a bit about the MySQL 4.1.x database difficulties some of you were having. I apologize for any troubles that resulted from the downtime of the MySQL 4.1.x database server especially compounded by the fact support tickets were not answered promptly enough. On occasion I get wrapped up in a research project that pulls my attention away from some tasks (such as support tickets) for an extended period of time. While this situation is rare I put priority into ensuring maximum uptime for all services over such research. In this case it appears as if the monitoring system could access the server via TCP/IP and some websites configured to access it via local sockets could access it as well but, it was seen as down by some websites. For future reference if there is a problem like this again please get in touch with moderator staff members and tell them about the problems. They have methods of contacting me that you do not have access to.
End Notes for MySQL 4.1.x issue: 1) Issue started with ragnarok's host server and Aesir lost power when Liquidweb.com's datacentre lost power. 2) The issue was resolved when ragnarok's host server was rebooted and ragnarok itself was reset by the staff at Liquidweb. (Other services also seemed to be affected the same way MySQL was.)

On a more positive note the following features were installed or improved over the last few weeks:
1) Roundcube webmail replaced Neomail as the third webmail program at Lifelesspeople.com. With an interface based on AJAX and using IMAP to access email this webmail program is stable, easy to use. and easy on the eyes.
2) The newly installed Knowledge Base replaced the FAQ format and several FAQ forums to put everything all in one place for easy access.
3) New software configurations were installed to help prevent certain types of comment and referrer spam. These will be tweaked more as time goes on to help prevent new abuses.
Thank you for taking the time to read the first edition of LLP Notes. If you have any comments I'm sure you know where to put them. _________________ * Knowledge Base * Wiki * Forum FAQs * |
