I considering getting a MacBook Pro within the year. It probably won't happen but its in consideration.
Anyways I was wondering if anyone knew if it'd be just a case of plug and play for my current external devices to use with the MacBook Pro. I want to keep my super sexy, super quality 22" monitor and my equally sexy desktop kit but I didn't know if there'd be any cross compatability issues with them.
Has anyone tried anything like this? Any advice? _________________ [img:2b23f8c1d9]http://i15.tinypic.com/6fq09pl.jpg[/img:2b23f8c1d9] |

Assuming the laptop has a VGA, DVI or HDMI output you can hook up the monitor I guess. Keyboards will likely work, though certain special features might not. (Like media keys, macro's, etc...). Mouses are also likely to work. I also assume a mac has support for drawing tablets and other tools like that. But you need to be more precise than "desktop kit". _________________

Yeah it would help if you named the products, or at least the ports that they use.
I have a Macbook so I switched from Windows and tried most of my devices to see if they would work.
My experiences have shown me that things work on the Mac better than they do on Windows. There are no drivers to install on a Mac, so your devices will just be detected either officially by a pre-installed driver or by a generic driver.
My logitech mice all work (USB and Bluetooth, and for bluetooth you don't even need the dongle) fine without any Logitech software, though if you want you can still get the mac software for it.
Monitors shouldn't have any problem, and like SolidRaven said, keyboards will work except for any media function buttons that require software on Windows to operate things like Media Player, though you can always try and see if it will operate iTunes.
Generally, hardware wise most things work fine on Macs. _________________ Come visit Shattered Abstracts! (Photoblog!) |

One is a Samsung 226BW 22" LCD Monitor
The other is a Microsoft Laser 5000 Desktop Set _________________ [img:2b23f8c1d9]http://i15.tinypic.com/6fq09pl.jpg[/img:2b23f8c1d9] |

| I owned a thinkpad, and have been using it for the past 3 years, quite a tough laptop but its a little expensive. My niece owns a Mac, and I tried using it and I can't seems to get use to the software. Probably, I am getting old. |

Thinkpads last forever. I have an 8 year old one here that died less than a year ago.
Anyway, macs also use drivers, but a lot of them are already installed... _________________

I'm pretty sure both will work just fine.
As for Thinkpads, I had a bad experience with those. My first laptop was a Thinkpad R31 as provided to me through a school laptop program.
Worst. Investment. Ever.
They charged us about $4000 CAD for the laptop and a 3 year warranty. The laptops came defected, with damages (white marks) the LCD from day 1. Then, almost every single one of them went through numerous repairs as motherboards and hard drives would spontaneously stop working, or cases would start cracking. My laptop alone had its motherboard replaced 2 times, hard drive 1, and screen 1. Many other had it worse, with so many issues (upwards of 7 new motherboards) that they were just given a newer model (T42). Worst laptop experience ever.
Ever since I got my Macbook I've only had to repair it once. The superdrive got funky after a year. _________________ Come visit Shattered Abstracts! (Photoblog!) |
