My bride is gone
Forever away
But I did it for love
On this sweet misty day
She was promised to another
As was I
But I’ve always known
That she’s my true bride
On this cool morning
Her groom awaits her
But I stole her away
He will wait forever
In the forest
Over the lake
I stand sentry
Was it a mistake?
My bride has gone
Forever away
But I did it for love
On this sweet misty day

This poem is the forerunner of a short story I am writing.. The story is about a man, who is in love with a woman and thinks they were fated to be together. So even though both their families have arranged marriages for them (so they are both engaged), he steals her away and takes her into a forest. In there, he tries to convince her that they can run away and start a beautiful life elsewhere, but she is not in love with him and refuses. When she tries to escape, he drowns her in the lake. The man then hangs himself on a tree overhanging the lake, to "stand sentry" over her grave.

Thats a beautifully written poem! Have you got the short story? It sounds quite interesting. I like the rhyming, an awesome feature to all poems I like.
