OK basically I think that I'm missing something in all of my sigs that I've made. I've got a couple examples here, most are not for me but I do them for friends. So yeah, just basically give me your opinion on what I could do better. I'll post what I think is my best work.

I use GIMP so my resources are rather limited. This is my first post, but I hope to be more active on these forums, and thanks for your input.

Okay, I will take a look at all of these as one entity because in my mind they all suffer from the same problem: Bad color schemes and non-related elements.

Here's a look at the first one specifically: What does Toad have to do with the dark and cliche strokes in the background? What does Toad have to do with "Stumpy". Why don't any of the elements use the same color scheme?

Here is what I would do/change: Use only one Toad character, why does it need to be repeated: or if you want two of them, find different pictures to create a more dynamic image. Why do they need to be so close to the edges? Give them some breathing room is what I would do if anything. Okay, now the word "Stumpy"... why not use a color scheme that matches Toad's? Maybe a red shadow instead of the green you have. The placement of the text is decent, it's slighty offset from the center, but right now it just looks random, so maybe push it even further from the center to emphasize that it's not supposed to be in the center. Now find a dynamic way to blend all these elements within the background instead of just dropping them all on the background.

I found a tutorial here doing a Toad signature. It's a pretty bad example, but they do one good thing: blending the art together.

I did manage to find some good Nintendo character tutorials for you to see exactly how a signature can pretty decent without a lot of effort:

Not the best best best examples, but sufficient. Using Gimp shouldn't limit you too much, even Gimp has the ability to do everything in these tutorials, but may just be named/located in different places. Keep working on it.

Those are pretty creative signatures you have done there. You should practice more though and go beyond the skills you have now in creating signatures. Your friends are very lucky to have you helping them create signature graphics.

I think with more practice you can have 10 times better looking signatures. The ones you have now are pretty good and hard to beat, but with practice comes talent.

Keep up the good work.

I think you did a pretty decent job on a creative level, but in the first one I don't know if I am really fond of the background and the text combination. Something about it seems off to me and I think maybe you should give it a couple of variations and see what you can come up with to tweak it a little bit.

In the second graphic the text kind of gets lost in the background and with your background, you might want to try something a little different. It seems a little empty for the image that you have at the side. Maybe by adding a different background pattern or even tweaking the colors a bit you might find that it works better for you. Just a thought.

In the third one yet again I am thinking you might want to do something with the coloring of the text because it gets a bit lost in the background. I don't know if you want to add something more than the shadow to it or maybe change the font again. Again the background just seems a little off for some reason. Maybe something with a bit more visual noise and darkness to it might help.

Over all though I think that you did a good job and I as impressed because I can see that your skill level are there. All the suggestions that I made before are just that and are more so my own personal preferences. I think your graphics look clean and I think that you made a good effort. Keep showing us your efforts as you go on because I am sure they will only get better and better.
