I've been hooked by the dodgy advertising campaign for the force unleashed but its only out on next gen consoles so I'm stuck.
I would really want to buy a next gen console that's good value and I can keep buying games for, for a while. I'm not a gamer and am totally new to gaming outside of the pc arena. I was wondering if anyone has any reconmendations for a next gen console.
I was thinking of xbox 360 but some reviews have not been so good. Wii looks so cool but my house is too small for any rigrous activity. I'll probably smash the TV.
So if anyone has any advise, it would be much appreciated _________________ [img:78323b42a3]http://sscm.moved.in/CODES/100x35press.jpg[/img:78323b42a3]SSCM - Ugly Betty Fansite

I've got a Wii and you really don't need to move around that much to play. You can play pretty much any game sitting down, only using the space in front of you (and maybe to the side if you really want) to play the games. Even Wii Sports, where you need to bowl, play tennis, box, and other sports can be played sitting down with barely any movement.
As for the Xbox 360, what I've played of it, I don't like. Like the first Xbox, I haven't found any good games. I've played Halo 3 and Dead Rising. I thought Dead Rising was going to be really cool game because of going around and killing zombies, but it was really unrewarding and repetitative. And Halo 3, just like the first two Halo games is nothing more than an average FPS. I'm continuing with my idea that it really only seems to be godly because the rest of the Xbox's game library is so bad.
I'm waiting until the Playstation 3 gets a few price cuts before buying it, but it looks pretty solid and there's some pretty sweet games out for it already. _________________

I'm waiting for the PS3 to drop in price. I like the looks of the Wii and i've played it, but at the moment doubt i'll be getting it any time soon. I've never been a fan of the xbox, as a lot of the games that are out for that are out on other consoles.
Most of the games i play are Final Fantasy and their on PS1/2/3 so i've had no reason to get other consoles _________________ Midnight Tempest - A Sailor Moon TCG

I've got all three, and I can safely say that if you care about getting the best games, the 360's your best bet with the Wii close behind. The 360 is just so far of the other two right now with the amount of excellent games for it, in so many genres, despite it's "shooter console" image. Halo 3, Forza 2, Dead Rising, Viva Pinata, and a bunch of other ones that I can't really think of right now.
If you care about graphics, I'd still go 360 over PS3, but knowing that PS3 may end up being better if it truly is stronger. If you care about multiplayer, Wii and 360 are kinda tied there, Wii has Wii Sports with Smash Bros coming out real soon, while 360 has Halo 3 and a bunch of fun co-op games.
But if I just had to recommend one without any other details, I'd say 360. |

360 will be fun right now, but within the next year the PS3 will become more dominant, I think. The hardware is truly "next-gen" rather than being a sort of power-house old-gen setup of the 360. The Wii is hardly next-gen at all as far as hardware. Basically, Microsoft or Sony could release their own controller with an accelerometer and infrared and they would turn their console into a SuperWii of sorts.
The only redeeming factor about the Wii is that it's inexpensive enough to buy even though it's not particularly "next-gen" or future-ready. The PS3, though, is an investment; however, it is an intelligent one in my opinion and according to my experience.
Again, within the next year, the PS3 will shine. It's already a great media center and possibly the best all-around consumer BluRay player. Not to mention that if you have a PSP (I don't, but my cousin does) you can do some really nifty and impressive things with the PS3 - like stream your PS3 media (music, photos, video, etc. on your PS3 or on a computer on your PS3's LAN) to your PSP ANYWHERE in the world with wifi access.
The PS3, however, has the strangest marketing and advertising I've ever seen. Some of that "PLAY BEYOND" leaves me scratching my head. |

I agree with Duck, there is almost no point in asking here because you are going to get completely biased comments because they will just tell you to get what they have or are going to get.
Just look at the type of games you like and see which console has most of those types of games. Although each console has its own little advantage:
Anyways, I think there are some real die hard PS3 fanboys on this forum. _________________ Tutorial Management Script - Version 1.4 Released

I agree with that comment. It seems like the forum is dominated by PS3 and PC fans the most.

The Wii has plenty of great games. Unless you are extra picky (or just against Nintendo in general), I think you should look again. Gaming should be about the games, not if it has next-gen this or next-gen that. _________________ http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Main_Page

Gaming should be about the experience that games bring the player. There are many different types of games and Wii simply does not offer that ultimate experience with visuals and audio. You play a game such as Gears of War or Heavenly Sword and you see stunning sights and hear things all around. You simply don't get this fully cinematic experience with last-gen visuals and stereo sound.
If you prefer simple games then that's fine. Simple graphics, simple sounds. Doesn't mean it's not still a game. The characters the Nintendo franchise has work great on their consoles. Simple, easy to render characters on a last-gen console. It's perfect.
But don't go attacking the kind of games the Xbox 360 and PS3 caters to simply because you like simple. No no no.
Then again, I sure do love playing Worms, Bomberman Live, Catan, and other great little games on Xbox Live Arcade. PSN has a few simple dual joystick shooters and just a hint of other offerings.
Actually the one thing that annoys me the most about Wii is the online. Super Smash Bros Brawl will feature online play. Yay! Ok but you can only see the names of, and chat with players who are on your friends list. You can play with random people but you cannot communicate with them or even know their username. How very kiddie of Nintendo to enforce such kiddie protecting rules on their online service. And now you see why so many gamers prefer Xbox 360 and it's fully featured Xbox Live service. $50 you say? Considering it is the absolute leader in online gaming for consoles it's definitely worth it. PSN suffers so much. It's as though Sony didn't really expect so many gamers to be online at once and so didn't support their network enough to handle anymore than that. Meanwhile Wii is all about that kiddie-family experience. Xbox Live gives you that and also gives you parental controls to protect the kiddies online. And disruptive players are easily muted. You can even avoid those players and prefer people that you found enjoyable to play with.
Online shouldn't be considered a next-gen experience on the consoles but it is. _________________ [img:bd4240ba2d]http://gethalo3gear.com/signature/images/halo_signature_1.jpg[/img:bd4240ba2d] |

They don't have to be biased. I dont have any and im not planning too either. If i was to recommend or buy (which i seriously doubt since i just got a laptop and im about to get a new desktop) it would be the 360.
Why?
Well first theres xbox live and it kills the ps3 online thingy (ive tried both).
Second is the games, all the attractive games are for 360 right now. I was gonna buy the ps3 but then i noticed something. There are many popular games that are switching to the 360. Now unless they were paid we can obviously tell that they know which one people will go for and from which theyll get more money in their pockets (biased there but still my the good games ARE on 360).
Third is Price - PS3 way too much and xbox with the price drop is actually pretty decently priced right now (biased there but i am basing it on average person so its only biased in some peoples point of view).
4th is last but not least so you can probably guess its gonna be about graphics.
PS3 is clearly the winner but still without a HD TV you cant really tell the difference, and since i play on the non HD in my basement (the HD is in the lounge but it really makes a mess... fine im the messy one) there really no point in going for it (that was biased since i am basing it on something i have but im trying to prove that not alot of people can afford HD TV and not alot of ppl will buy it for the uber cool consoles (lol).
Well thats my opinion but there was SOME bias... _________________ OFFERING SIG SPACE, READ HERE http://lifelesspeople.com/foru.....hp?t=46851 |
