Not sure if its really worth a try, currently, I am using Gimp and it works great for me.

More than a year after web-based photo editors began swarming the scene, Adobe this morning unveiled its free, long-anticipated Photoshop Express web app. It doesn't have nearly a quarter of the options, tools, and tricks of its desktop-based namesake, but it seems like a good platform for anyone who likes to spend a little time refining, and then sharing, their digital photos. The Flash-based app has just 17 basic buttons for editing, a thumbnail display of all the different changes you've made, and the album storing (2 GB of space), import (from Picasa and Facebook, among others) and sharing features seem up-to-snuff. In other words, you won't get layers, channels, and dodge-and-burn, but you can remove chocolate stains from white shirts pretty handily.

Login with bugmenot@trashymail.com / bugmenot if you can't be bothered signing up (don't blame you).

Wasn't expecting something web based. And "not nearly a quarter" is pretty accurate.

Photoshop Elements is still the go. If you are on a budget, you can get earlier but still very capable versions for $20-$40. My copy of Elements 2 that came bundled with a scanner was adequate for everything I needed to do for a long time and I do a lot of web development, albeit mostly with the back end.

How about a.viary anybody? Been trying that out and it is pretty sweet. Still got a long way to go before it can be used as my main graphics editor though (web based slowness kills me, as well as being able to have only one image open at once... even thought that is done to speed up the program.)

I heard a lot of people complaining about the lack of features in Express. Basically people are calling it Web-based MS Paint... with the name Adobe attached to it.

I wouldn't go that far at all. I think this is a step in the right direction, especially with things like Silverlight soon going to change the way we think about web applications. This is beta after all, I am sure it will get much more sophisticated as it progresses, and better once the technology is there. There's quite a few filters, image correctors and the like. And, keep in mind this is also a gallery program (Adobe trying to capitalize off the Flickr trend). I think it's a far stretch to call it paint.

I am sick of sites releasing full production while still in Beta. Why do sites release without the full feature set they initially plan on having? So they can make money while they continue to develop?

It seems like a lot of companies/programs are guilty of going to production while still in Beta. Gmail, a.viary, PulseWire, Ikariam, and I am sure the list extends beyond my knowledge.

The only redemption for some sites (such as Gmail and a.viary) is that they are (were in the case of Gmail, which is no longer in beta) by invite only, so that you understood that it is in beta and that you are supposed to be on the lookout for bugs.

I am just tired of going to websites, clicking on a link to a feature, only to be sent to a page that say something on the lines of "This feature isn't available at this time, stay tuned though cause it will be soon!" Thank you for getting my hopes up and then letting me down. Why even put the link there? Why not just leave the space blank (a placeholder without actually being a link even!) and make some kind of notice along the lines of "Here are some upcoming features:"

Its just frustrating, and I feel unprofessional. Don't release half finished products. Thank you.

I don't mind it. Especially if its software that has functionality not found elsewhere or improved in a much better way. At least they admit it is beta so you know you can stay clear if you want to.

They also do it to build awareness. You hear things about it, the people who try it are ones more inclined to blog about it or otherwise spread the word and so forth.

This is really similar to YouTube Remixer, except that the Remixer edits videos uploaded to YouTube, and this edits images. Both uses the Adobe Flash technology.

Or if you still study just get the student version, it's a lot cheaper. (Of the full version that is)

To me, Photoshop Express looks like a tool for quickly retouching a photo. I don't think it's good for much else. Since I have no use for photographs and only use graphic editors for drawing and preparing graphics for the web, I won't be using Photoshop Express any time soon.

I think this is just really nice for the not really technically skilled people that just need an easy way to fix some little things in their pictures.

It's actually quite nice I guess. It's faster than I would have expected when I read about the release. Next to that it's definately simple, you've got all the options you need for simple editing of photos with a really simple interface.

The application looks great and for a web-based photo editor it has a great set of features.
There is a drawback though: it's often not very responsive. This can be quite frustrating. I'd personally rather work offline with a tool that's faster.
It looks pretty though, you gotta give them that.

I didn't see a link to it anywhere, but i could've missed it. Just got home from work and am half asleep Silly

https://www.photoshop.com/express/index.html

I actually think that it's pretty neat. I most likely wont use it much though unless i'm at some computer where i can't edit pictures very well, or on linux.

I think its awesome what people can do with flash now. I remember back when it was very simple. This is nice.

You have to keep in mind that this tool was made by Adobe, the company that owns and develops Flash. You would kinda expect an innovation like PS Express to come from them.
Since the fusion of Adobe and Macromedia we have seen a very interesting blend of features. Not only is the Adobe Creative Suite bigger, a lot of 'Photoshop Features' were integrated into Flash. For example filters which allow you to apply cool effects to objects in Flash without destroying their vector structure (the Blur filter, for example).
Photoshop Express could be seen as the ultimate handshake between two applications: Flash and Photoshop.

Yes, ever since Adobe acquired Macromedia, their Flash technology became really popular.

Videos are now streamed in Flash, and even editing tools are made in Flash. Even editing videos in Flash is possible now.
