Today the PHP Group released a new version of PHP with PHP 5.1 Beta 1.
This new version of PHP brings new features to the table including the following:

* PDO (PHP Data Objects) - A new native database abstraction layer providing performance, ease-of-use, and flexibility.
* Significantly improved performance including a new Zend Engine II execution architecture.
* The PCRE extension has been updated to PCRE 5.0.
* Many more improvements including lots of new functionality & many bug fixes, especially in regards to SOAP, streams and SPL.

To use this add AddHandler application/x-httpd-php51 .php to the .htaccess file in the folder you'd like to use PHP 5.1 in. Note: Many scripts are not compatible with PHP 5.1 and PHP4 should be used instead in these cases.
