I hate to run MSN Yahoo and QQ at the same time, but it seems I have to do so. Pidgin could not solve my problem.

Here is the problem, I have some Yahoo friends in my MSN account, and Pidgin could not identify they are online or not and so, it is not possible for me to send them massages through Pidgin.

I tried different version of Pidgin, but I still have to run these IMs together. Confused

Thanks Scar. That is what happens to me when I am using Pidgin to log in MSN, so I put it here to see if any one here get this kind of problem.

I think it is might be the MSN plug in, maybe updating needed, that causes this, but not so sure.

I don't have any problems with Pidgin. I'm using it to talk to people on MSN, AIM, Yahoo, and Google Talk.

Maybe Trillian would be another option? I have heard some negative reviews on it though.

Thanks Rashy, I even tried Miranda IM too, but also the same problem. Can your Yahoo friends see you online when you are logging in MSN account with Pidgin?

I run Pidgin (to log in MSN) and Yahoo at the same time on my computer. I can see all my MSN friends online and talk to them without any problem, in Pidgin, but I can not see my Yahoo account online. In Yahoo, MSN is not there too, and Yahoo tells me that my MSN account appears to be offline, but as I told you before, it is running there and it is good. See that is my problem with Pidgin.

I don't have any problems with Pidgin too. Currently, I'm using Pidgin to chat with people on MSN, ICQ, Yahoo, and Google Talk.

Perhaps, you should take a look at Comparison of instant messaging clients wiki site, you can find lots of messaging clients there. Hopefully, one of them can fit your needs.

Thanks.

I have already installed these plugins that I need, I thought it might be the libmsn.dll that causes me the trouble, maybe I need a new version of that dll which supports this.

I tried using Pidgin a while ago but felt that something was missing from it.

I now use Miranda, simply because it's free, open-source, highly customizable, has plug-in support, and doesn't take a toll on the cpu when running, especially for a long time.

Does pidgin lt you switch between the profiles on yahoo accounts when you are sending messages?

Like one yahoo account will let you create 5 or so profiles. In Yahoo messenger before you send a message or enter a chat room it lets you select the profile/name that you want to send the message as or enter the room as. Alot of the all in one messages don't allow you to select. Does pidgin?

if so this could make me switch to it.
oh yeah, pidgin does let you go into yahoo chat rooms correct?

Am not really sure, as I have just one Yahoo account. But I am sure that you can login more than one Yahoo account.

Scar, Pidgin has support for IRC which is basically the same as the chat rooms that Yahoo has, or so I believe so you should have no problems there. And yes, you can have more than one account on the same network although it has been a long time since I done that. I remember it being possible as I sent a message to myself.

neek, I'm all for minimising resource consumption, but Pidgin is just as light proportional to features and you do not have to worry about plugins and themes. "Something was missing" for me when I tried Gaim years ago on Windows and kept me on Trillian but after using Linux, I tried Pidgin (renamed from Gaim) again and it was no longer the unpolished software that it once was.

Partly. I believe it was originally for AIM only.

The main reason, if I remember correctly, was a trademark issue, maybe combined with the fact that "gaim" sounds terrible.

The rename was done sometime one year ago, when the since GAIM has got some legal issues with AOL and their and their AOL instant messenger (AIM). Therefore, GAIM had no choice but to change their name to PIDGIN. Try to google with keywords "AIM GAIM PIDGIN legal" and you should get some details of the legal issue.
