Pre-Ordering games?

The closest I've ever come to pre-ordering a game was when I asked the owner of a pc store in which I used to work part time to give me a call whenever a new batch of games came in. The sweet part was that I used to get my hands on all of the newest games even before they got to the stands which meant that there was no chance I'd hear a terrible "Sold out".

That's in the past though...I've moved away from that place and it's a pain to travel half through the country just to get a new game. Also lately I've really limited my game purchases since I'm saving up for a pool table and a boom box.
