I recently played this video to some kids in our church because I hadn't managed to club together a talk about Moses so I thought it would be easy way out of the sticky situation. However after watching it with the kids I'm really glad that I played it.
Of course it had a lot of artistic license and Moses looked about 30 instead of 80 as the bible says but on the whole it stuck to the main story (with a few large disgressions) and the songs were brilliant. The kids absolutely loved it and I think they did eventually get the morals of the story.
I was wondering if anyone else has seen and what they thought of it. I think on the acurracy level it was poor but it was a great way of teaching children about the bible because if I had done my speech they would probably have all gone to sleep before I even mentioned Moses. It would be good if more of these kinds of films were made so that more children can be interested in God and even if you're not religious you have to admit the bible stories are great entertainment. _________________ [img:78323b42a3]http://sscm.moved.in/CODES/100x35press.jpg[/img:78323b42a3]SSCM - Ugly Betty Fansite

When I was young I used to love to watch this film. The music is wonderful with a full score. I thought it had beautiful animation as well. It made Moses's story more interesting and it seemed more real to see the human side of Moses. Inaccuracy aside I think it is a good movie also. _________________ That's what I said |

I'm not sure any movies are along the sames lines as the Prince of Egypt, at least as far as I know.
I don't think we should expect a high degree of theological, scriptural, or historical accuracy from a film like this as the audience (comprised mostly of young children) would probably miss the nuances and implications of finer point anyway. The idea, in my opinion, is to instill in them a rough idea of what the Bible's story tells us and to provide them with a sense of comfortability later when they delve deeper into the scriptures.
That said, I still think accuracy should be a secondary goal. No need to have Moses wearing a baseball cap and riding a 85' Mustang on the way to see the Pharaoh. Also no need to push any agendas or underlying sneak-attacks, so to speak.
Entertainment and inspiration should be the focus, I think, with accuracy being considered important throughout, but not rigidly adhered to at all costs. |
