so i recently purchaseda laptop running 64 bit vista home premium. i tried downgrading to xp sp 2 64 bit but when i boot from the disk, i get to the blue screen and it loads everything atthe bottom and it locks up when it says "windows is starting". The disc just stops spinning.

I have managed to get the 32 bit version of ME installed as well as upgrade to XP 32 bit. I just cant get the 64 bit version to work. I've tried multiple cd's they all do the same.

Also I cant connect it to the internet from the 32 bit windows, not sure if my drivers are only 64 bit compatible or not. but this really sucks Silly

Btw, the computer is an HP dv9999us.

Thanks for any help!

No but I've tried 2 different versions of xp 64 and neither worked.
I don't have any other 64 bit computers to test it on.

Are these both burnt copies of 64 bit because they both may have problems on them.
As for getting the internet to work under 32 bit you may need to download the drivers. This should be the drivers for windows xp

The 64bit is not burnt from the same source as the others. There may have been a problem with the source disc

You can't downgrade to Windows XP using a Vista Home Premium licence.

But if you are using a Windows XP licence then it's fine. In this case I recommend you dual-boot instead of uninstalling Vista.

Computers nowadays come with hard drives with generous capacity. It's definitely sufficient to hold both Vista and XP.
