Project Gutenberg
Anyone else use this website? It provides over 20,000 eBooks for free. I don't read all that much, partly because books aren't that easy to come by. Sure you can buy them in a bookstore or check them out of a library, but I don't frequent those kinds of places. Basically what I mean is that it is easier to say, rent a movie than check out a book.
Project Gutenberg, however, provides tons of books that one can access on their own time. Project Gutenberg even keeps bookmarks for you. With this website, I've started reading the Arsene Lupin books, which I've wanted to read for quite a while now, but just didn't have the means to get. _________________

Funny you should mention it. A couple of years back, I was a very active member of PGDP, though I haven't done it recently (not because I don't want to, but because of less free time, more hobbies, and more school work). Maybe I should start doing it again...I always thought it was oddly entertaining, almost like playing a game which serves an admirable function.
Project Gutenberg is probably the number one reason why I desperately want Amazon's Kindle to do extremely well on the market. The product itself is way too expensive for somebody like me, but I'm hoping the whole "e-Ink"-style electronic paper technology catches on so the prices come down over time. Downloading a bunch of good literature from Gutenberg and then being able to take it with you anywhere without the eye-strain from a back-lit screen sounds wonderful to me. |

That distributed proofreaders thing seems like a noble cause. I'm going to register and help out a bit. I love getting things for free so it'll be nice to be on the other side of things for a change and help people get things for free. _________________

Why is it hard to check out a book? In my city: you go in the library, grab the book (or books) you want, and the person at the desk scans it and tells you when it's due back. Usually they aren't due for a few weeks at least.
Anyway, on the topic at hand: I never read ebooks. I prefer regular books. _________________ http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Main_Page

You make me laugh sometimes The topic wasn't whether you like reading the ebooks online. Just print them out (size permitting) or wait for something like Kindle to become more mainstream if it doesn't appeal to you, or stick with the library.
And I've realised how little reading I do or how much I know about books. Being one of the ones who "are yet undecided", I looked at the top 100 and hardly anything rang a bell. Anyway, it sure has come a long way when I last looked at the site and probably exceeds the collection at the library, at least in number of worthwhile books. Some great initiative in the project. |

| Thanks for the link, but I recall many others, including google books etc. I think we should list them all here, so its convenient for everyone to search for them. |
