Bringing satellites into a polar orbit would prove rather impractical with a 'pancake world model' like that.

You can measure that the earth is round vs the orbit and position of the moon as well in fact

North America didn't exist yet, it was later made by aliens or something. I'm not too good on history or geology though so my details could be a little off.
