Lair, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk!
This trio released within the past 3-4 weeks was touted as a reason to buy a PlayStation 3. The games were supposed to be amazing in their quality and were also exclusive to the Sony brand.
However! Lair failed big time. Great cinematic quality yet the controls were a lesson in futility. GameSpot rated the game a mere 4.5 and about an overall 5.8 average score. Even PS3Fanboy.com gave it a 5.5 and blamed the controls. So that's one AAA down.
Warhawk is an amazing multiplayer game. It has great gameplay but the only thing that is that this title was greatly overshadowed. Sporting a few hundred thousand copies sold, it was easily overlooked with the behemoth that is BioShock releasing just before Warhawk. BioShock received rave reviews and it was the talk of the industry and sold almost 2 million copies I believe. Warhawk, on whole 'nother console just didn't make much of an impact.
And finally Heavenly Sword. Again highly hyped, I was really wanting this game to be great and a reason that I bought my PlayStation 3. But no. The game is great but it clocks in at a feeble 6 hours of gameplay. You could easily finish it in an afternoon and think nothing more of it. It's a tragedy really. Great production values, acting (both voice and motion capture), but the game is just too damn short to merit a full $60 purchase especially at the beginning of Fall 07.
Although Grand Theft Auto IV has been pushed back into Spring of next year, there are still some massive hits that are definitely worth the sticker price.
Assassin's Creed. Please don't be a short game! Please! I beg of you! Although I'm more likely to pick this up for Xbox 360 simply because the 360's controller is better.
Haze, forget Killzone 2, Haze might actually be a great FPS that you can actually compare to Halo.
And so many others. Oye. My cash for this Fall already has dibs all over it from these great games.
I love being a gamer! _________________ [img:bd4240ba2d]http://gethalo3gear.com/signature/images/halo_signature_1.jpg[/img:bd4240ba2d] |

None of those interest me much. Those games seem like the typical PlayStation game: teen or M rated violence fests. I could be wrong I suppose.
I certainly don't need a game to be rated teen or mature to be decent. There is nothing wrong with the E rating. It's a bit stupid, that Sony and Microsoft ignore E games usually, because they assume teens and adults are the main gaming audience. I've played games since I was a kid (ever since Atari and the original Nintendo), and I certainly don't assume by rating. No one should, period. I don't hate violent games, I've enjoyed the Resident Evil games since they started. I also like a few other games, but I certainly don't need to own many of the same concept. Shoot, kill, repeat is a bit boring after a while. Even with multiplayer, it's not that exciting.
The most important thing about a game should be, how fun it is. What rating it has, online play and other things aren't a huge deal.
People ignore Nintendo too much, because they gear their games towards everyone for the most part. People that grew up playing the original PlayStation and Xbox for the most part, think teen and mature games are the way to go. That's far from the truth, even if people wont realize it. _________________ http://prowrestling.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

The 360's controller is the main reason I don't like the xbox. Controllers should not be that big.
Also the best titles for the PS3 will probably be Metal Gear and Final Fantasy. (Pretty much like on the previous 2 playstation consoles ). But once in a while a nice diamond shows up (Zone of the Enders: 2nd Runner is a good example for a PS2 game like that). Another Playstation classic would be SOCOM: US Navy Seals.
Another fact is that developers still need to get used to the cell chip and that delays development, so by half way 2008 the playstation 3 will also have a nice line up. _________________

I personally found BioShock to be somewhat short... it only took me about 2 days to beat, don't get me wrong it was an amazing game and fun but it seemed short, especially considering the fact that all the game was, was the campaign (e.g. no online or multiplayer like other games). If all they have is campaign, you would expect it to be longer, like a game like Oblivion is really long and it should be because you don't have anything else to do with the game after you beat it. _________________ Tutorial Management Script - Version 1.4 Released

From Killzone II to MGS4 to Haze to others, I think the PS3 will have a great shooter lineup. Killzone II is easily the best looking console shooter we've seen so far (based on current "pre-beta" in-game footage that's out there) and Metal Gear Solid IV will be amazing in itself, not to mention the whole Metal Gear Solid Online bit.
On a side note, BioShock has been WAY WAY overrated. I don't understand all the hype... I played and watched it played on a 92" (yes, ninety-two) screen in HD the other day, and I can't say I'm impressed at either the graphics or the gameplay. Looks like a glorified Half Life 2, in my opinion, and it seems to play just like it. Telekinetic power? How about Gravity Gun, anyone?
Now I'm looking forward to Little Big Planet, personally... that world wide customization / sharing system looks great! Not to mention that the game is some of the sweetest eye candy in its style that the gaming world has to offer.
And let's not forget Ratchet and Clank! One of the best-looking games to date with one of the gaming world's favorite character lineup.
Gran Turismo 5 is probably one of the most realistic games of ANY genre to date. Hopefully the gameplay is on part with the graphics we've seen so far.
I haven't even mentioned many many potentially great titles here, but the one's I've mentioned are the ones I would consider buying at this point. Once Final Fantasy's out, the PS3's game lineup will be so well-stacked that a PS3 owner couldn't ask for more.
Well, maybe a 3D world-wide virtual environment to link players together in a customizable, personalized way... oh wait... |

Too bad Lair failed, it was a very promising game. I'm also looking forward to Haze (although, I'll probably play it on pc), hopefully Haze will have something more to offer than awesome graphics.
I don't have a ps3 though, so I couldn't care less if a lot of games fail I'm waiting until the price drops and then I'll see wich console (360 or ps3, I won't buy a Wii) has the best game line-up. If I had to decide now I would get a 360, but I don't want to miss FFXIII and even though there are rumours that Final Fantasy won't be playstation-exclusive anymore, I need official confirmation about that before I decide what console to buy _________________ .// Proud to be Lifeless for more then 4 years \\. |

Final Fantasy XIII. Square Enix's presentation at TGS recently ended with a PS3 Only message at the end of the closed viewing of the new trailer. Final Fantasy won't be leaving Sony's console.
Haze is still unconfirmed for either PC or Xbox 360 but this is the same ridiculous game Ubisoft played with Assassin's Creed by attempting to make it seem like they were aiming for PS3 exclusivity but eventually declaring availability on Xbox 360 as well.
The titles I listed were primarily ones that were hyped, have come out, and have been let downs in one way or another. But PS3 still has a few more exclusives to appeal to gamers.
Actually, I'm not sure how much LittleBigPlanet is going to appeal to gamers but I for one will most likely be picking up this one as it just looks to be sooo much fun! Sack boys!
I've never played a Ratchet and Clank game but hey, if it does pretty well with reviewers than I'll be sure to pick up just so I have something great to play on Sony's Blu-Ray player. I mean console.
Killzone 2, great graphics but how about gameplay? The first Killzone failed to live up to the hype so Killzone 2 has everything to prove.
Gran Turismo 5. Actually at this point it will first be Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. A "starter pack" of sorts for when the full game is completed. It's an interesting way to develop a game by releasing a less fully featured version ahead of time.
Metal Gear Solid 4. Ha. Guaranteed hit. Although many of the bosses seem so cheap. Crying Wolf... who looks like a wolf and cries. Raging Raven? Screaming Mantis? Laughing Octupus? OYE! The FROGs? What is with Kojima and his characters?? Cheap or cliche, they'll be a great time going against as Solid Snake.
I definitely am wanting to at the very very least rent Heavenly Sword. There's just too much cinematic value to pass it by. The character emotions in their faces are simply amazing to watch. 6 hours of gameplay isn't worth a full out purchase but a rental yes for sure! _________________ [img:bd4240ba2d]http://gethalo3gear.com/signature/images/halo_signature_1.jpg[/img:bd4240ba2d] |

I thought that Haze was confirmed for pc. The only gaming magazine I buy is for pc-games only and they previewed it. I'm going to google if it's confirmed or not
I just found out that originally the game was meant to be ps3 exclusive for a while and would then be released for 360 and pc. But Ubisoft just announced that the release for 360 and pc has been put on hold. So we're not sure if Haze will be ps3 exclusive or not. If it sells on ps3 enough, it'll probably come to pc and 360 too, that's my guess _________________ .// Proud to be Lifeless for more then 4 years \\. |

If it doesn't sell enough on PS3 you mean. Problem with exclusives on the PS3 is that they just don't sell nearly as well as they would if they were released multi-platform or even on just the Xbox 360.
If anything, Haze will likely only be a timed exclusive for the PS3 meaning that they want to try to drive sales of the PS3 but at the same time, want to make as much buckos as they can and so will later release on PC and Xbox 360.
Or it will follow the path of Assassin's Creed and end up being a same day release on all three platforms. Meh.
Although Analyst Michael Pachter has predicted that LittleBigPlanet will be a console mover for the PS3. Of course analysts get things right and they get things wrong so it's not saying much if an analyst says this or that. Same guy predicted that PlayStation 3 would outsell Xbox 360 for July sales due to the PS3 price cut and the announcement of the Xbox 360's 3 year warranty extension. Nope. Xbox 360 still outsold PS3 although Sony's console did break the 100,000 consoles sold in a month mark. Then again, Xbox 360 surpassed PS2 sales for the first time in August sales. And with Halo 3's release in 11 hours, 31 minutes, Xbox 360 demand is supposedly as strong as demand for Wii based on some oblong analysis of isoceles (I dunno?) _________________ [img:bd4240ba2d]http://gethalo3gear.com/signature/images/halo_signature_1.jpg[/img:bd4240ba2d] |

I love the PS3 as a Blu Ray player but I still haven't found any games I've really enjoyed for it, and I don't really see any other than LittleBigPlanet and Killzone 2 that are going to be awesome.
I have this feeling that Forza 2 will end up being better than than Gran Turismo 5, and Grand Theft Auto 4 is supposedly featuring more content on the 360 so I'll probably pick that up there. Final Fantasy 12 wasn't as good as the previous ones so I'm not as excited for 13 as I should be and I've never played a Metal Gear Solid game, but I'll probably buy 4. I'm not sure if I should be hyped for it.
I still love my PS3, but Persona 3 and Kingdom Hearts 2 are the only games I'm playing on it right now and those are both Playstation 2 games. Movies look absolutely beautiful on it, and I've got five more free ones coming in the mail soon!
I guess what I'm saying is I don't think PS3 has any Triple A hits right now or coming in the immediate future. Keep an eye out for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune coming out soon, it's looking awesome. And if you haven't gotten Super Stardust HD off the Playstation Network yet, you really should, that's the best game on the platform right now. |
