You google it first.

I type in "free php nuke themes" and found quite a few sites.
Then you download the theme you want and you upload it to the theme folder of php-nuke. I don't use it, but just search for the folder with the default theme

To upload you have different option. You can log into your cpanel account and use the file upload feature there but it can be really difficult especially if you have to follow a directory structure. I would recommand using an ftp software instead. It's really easy, almost like transfering files to different places on your pc though you need to specify "another computer" which is the server.

First you need to get your desired theme and then read the instruction files carefully which will guide you to the future.

there are several php-nuke variations that are free, php-nuke is under gpl ang will always be free, maybe the one you saw earlier could be other softwares or perhaps minimum donations from a website to access several sensitive areas where yoou can download free stuffs. There are websites with free scripts but has a quota for donations to access the download links, it's kind of weird really.

several months ago i have downloaded a feature-pack variation of a php-nuke which was develop my some other programmers and the software was launched free, but later on the software was transfered to a subscribers section
wherein someone has to subscribe for $30 a year to access this section and download sections restricted for regular website members.

about the themes, download several themes made for your version of nuke, it's not recommended that you would use a little bit outdated or succeeding versions to your php-nuke version but still it will work. afterwards upload the extracted new themes folder to the themes folder from the root of your php-nuke. several themes requires little bit of tweaking and editing from its script so be sure to read the readme text file after extraction of the downloaded php-nuke themes if there is one.

When you have php-nuke installed on your site/account, you should be able to use any legal themes that you can find... as long as they do not violate the TOS and the author of the theme allows you to use it Wink

As for uploading them, I'd suggest using ftp for the file transfer. I think you need to upload it to one of the Themes directories located somewhere in the nuke folders. It has been a while since I've worked with nuke, so you'll be best off exploring and/or reading the install instructions that came with the theme you downloaded.
